we are planning to visit Universal studios for 3 nights(two full days) pre cruise on DCL
We will have our two kids 5 and 7 with us and ideally want a hotel with easy access to the park.i am not sure it's worth staying at he onsite properties but if so cabana bay would be our budget.ofherwise can anyone recommend one within easy walking distance with two little ones?

With two small kids, I would stay at Cabana Bay -- which is awesome and has free bus service, or if you want free front-of-line access, one of the other universal hotels.

For small kids, they'll likely enjoy the pool as much as the parks. While there is plenty of fun stuff at the parks, overall I would say they target kids a bit older than yours.

You can also read the threads re: accommodations at the Universal section of these boards. They're about halfway down to the bottom when you are on the main forum screen. We stay at WBC, which has great resort amenities onsite, when we go to Universal or WDW. But we belong to a family of Wyndham owners, so that one is a no-brainer for us.
