Anyone got any good tips for booking nights at the Universal hotels? Do you book directly with Universal or through someone else? Quite fancy doing this next year so any tips would be welcomed!!
Unlike with Disney, there are fewer general public discounts but there are still discounts offered to Annual Pass Holders and AA members.
The great thing about Universal is that you can book online, direct with universal, and use the discounted rates. If you check out
Universal Orlando and go to the reservations page you will notice a box that says "promotional code" simply type
AAA in the box for an AA discount, APH for an annual pass discount or ENT for an entertainment book discount (these are pretty rare now, though).
The discounted rates are usually released just a couple of months prior. The discounts are not as heavy as in the past, due to growing occupancy rates in the Universal hotels. They know they can fill rooms at rack rate so there is less need for big discounts. However, I believe the Universal hotels to offer exceptional quality accommodation and good value for money. The front of the line pass alone is priceless during peak times.
Make sure you check the different options available. For example, when I booked they were offering 2 free length-of-stay passes with each full-price reservation of 4 or more nights. Paying rack rate and getting the 2 free passes worked out cheaper for me than using the AAA discount and having to purchase the passes on top of that.
