We are going on some days from Sept 17-21, inclusive.

Would the regular lines have a long waiting time for the popular attractions (including the Harry Potter atratctions), or should we buy an express pass?

Can you buy a multiple day theme park ticket + express pass combo? Or can one buy a multiple day express pass? I am asking so I can somehow save money, if I have to buy an express pass.

Where are you staying? You can always stay at a deluxe Universal hotel and just get the Express Passes included. Great hotels, fabulous proximity and express passes make them a pretty good option. :)
Otherwise, I would wait on the express passes and see if you feel like they are needed when you get there.

How many people will there be and where will you be staying?

You could buy the ticket/express combo, but I would wait until you are in the park and see if you think the express will be needed.

Staying at Westgate Lake resorts - so a Universal associated Express pass is not an option.

Can one get a discounted express pass - perhaps through AAA/costco/undercover tourist?

If it will only be two in your group, some rides offer the single rider lines

Take advantage of that to cut wait times down

You don't have to buy Express Passes in advance - wait until you get there - if you feel the lines are longer than you can tolerate, then buy the EP.

I'd definitely wait and see if you need it. Can be bought everywhere in the parks. Note, it's not refundable, and is date and park(s) specific. Also note, that time of year, the Studios is closing at 5pm for HHN, where the day express pass does not work at the HHN event, and does not work at Volcano Bay either.

Ooh, and your trip is coming up soon. I hope you have a great trip, whatever you decide.

Depending on how many people and I’d you do end up wanting the EP for everyone...

Even though you have a hotel it can sometimes be financially worth booking an onsite hotel for a night or two to get the unlimited EP.

One night booked at a deluxe gets you two days of uEP for everyone on the reservation. Two nights gets you 3 days of it.

If you decide on EP for all, do the math for what you want and your dates, just in case.
