Universal and 4th July

I was wondering when would be the best time to visit Universal to avoid the biggest 4th July crowds?
I am assuming that to go on Sunday 3rd will be extremely busy but what happens after the 4th itself ? Will the Tuesday be a better bet or are people still off for the holiday? Would I be better leaving it til later in the week?
I'd really appreciate some advice from you guys who know how big this holiday is and how long people celebrate it before and after the actual date.

Also what do people do on the 4th?
Are there parades ? Do people celebrate at home ? Are shops etc open ?

Unfortunately the crowds in the summer will be bad any day you go...weekend or weekday. If you stick with mid-week you should be able to make it bearable crowd wise but you've got the hot and humid conditions that can be very oppressive.

July 4th is a national holiday so lots of people are off work. Many people have cook outs and parties over the weekend. All the local theme parks will have a fireworks display as well as the City of Orlando.
