Universal a part of Disney now?

No. Disney will own the rights to the Marvel characters. Universal will still own all the rides and will remain a separate company. It is highly unlikely that Disney will start selling Universal tickets or vice versa.

Seeing as Disney has aquired marvel comic rights and universal has the attractions i wonder if disney will be selling tickets for universal now too? would be nice since the coasters are alot better

THat's a big leap from Disney owning the rights to the characters which Universal uses in its parks to Disney selling tickets for the Universal parks. That will not happen.

Islands of Adventure is so heavily based on Marvel Characters it seems like there would have to be some deal there.

Marvel has to live up to its agreement with Universal for many, many more years. Those rides will be there awhile, they just won't be adding to them....Universal and Disney aren't going to be buddy buddy anytime soon!

I am sure there is. Universal has a contract with Marvel (soon to be Disney) to use there characters. Universal pays for this privilege. Once the contract expires, Universal/Disney will have to renegotiate the contract, depending on renewal terms of the old contract. You may recall Paramount parks sold out their theme parks a few years ago. The new owners were allowed to continue to use the Paramount themes until the contract between Paramount and Paramount Parks expired. The new owners then had to change the themes on the ride. This may be what happens with Universal, or Disney may renew the contract.

I would guess that Universal is not very pleased with the deal.

HOWEVER...

Marvel does collect revenue from ticket sales at IoA from Universal, just like it does with box office sales from Sony via Spiderman or Paramount via Iron Man, etc. Since we know there will be a Spiderman 4, Iron Man 2, Captain America, Thor, more X-Men Origins, etc., while Disney won't be "selling" tickets to Universal's theme parks, or producing any Marvel films in the near future, they definitely will be collecting mucho dinero from all of Marvel's investments as soon as the deal gets finalized later this year. Think of it: all Disney had to do was spend $4 billion and in the next 3-5 years, they'll have made their money back and a whole lot more without ever having to raise a muscle for production or promotion.

I've got two words for that: Nice!

So I guess you could say everytime you buy a ticket for IoA at Universal, you are giving your money to Disney. For anyone who thinks Harry Potter is going to be a great success, I hope you're right. It just means more money for Disney! :rotfl2:

Disney FTW!!!

I certainly hope not...ticket prices would probably triple, and it would probably be the end of FOTL bennies if you stay on site...I'd hate it if they went to Express Pass like at WDW!

ONE island at IOA is Marvel Super Hero Island but the other islands have nothing to do with Marvel characters so the is no "deal there." Jurassic Park, Seuss Landing, Toon Lagoon, The Lost Continent and WWoHP have nothing to do with Marvel.

there is no Disney vs Universal mentality. you'll have to get past that. there's a Disney wants to make money mentality. they don't care who's paying for it.

just like when Disney wants to film Pirates of the Caribbean, they go to pay Universal Studios to use their backlot and they hire Warner Brothers Studios to create the metalwork and they go to Lucasfilm/Skywalker Sound for sound editing and Sony Pictures for post-editing.

something like this is not new. and speculation on it is way overblown.

My thought on this is that Universal will just have to pay the copyright fee for the names to Disney now and Disney will reap the benefits of that. It is similar to Disney's use of the Aerosmith name and such. Marvel doesn't own Universal. Universal simply pay to use the marvel characters, now they will pay Disney. Besides, Universal helps bring tourists to Orlando and to Disney and I don't think Disney would want to mess with that.

My question is will WDW parks change? I am hoping that new Marvel based attractions will be added to Disney Hollywood Studios. I would love to see a SuperHero ride/rides with souveniors and especially cute clothes for little boys.:dance3:

This is from the All Ears news letter...

The deal will not affect Universal Studios Inc., which has an entire area dedicated to Marvel characters in Islands of Adventure. Universal's long-standing agreement with Marvel gives it exclusive U.S. rights east of the Mississippi River to certain characters for use in theme park attractions. The agreement stands for as long as Universal continues to operate the Marvel Super Hero Island area, which features rides such as The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man and The Incredible Hulk Coaster.

What this means for those west of the Mississippi, who knows?
