When you purchase a ticket on United out of PIT, you are actually flying on US Air. I think United is a participating airline for DME but US Air is not. So what would be the situation here? The price is the same for the same flights. If I buy a ticket through United, can I check the luggage at the resort? The other direct flights out of PIT are on Airtran and Southwest.

I wish I could help you. I'm trying to book flights and wondering the same thing.

I don't think it would be participating. If you have a USAir flight booked on United, you would check-in with USAir. The resorts do not have access to USAir's system, so I don't think they could access your flight.
