left today for San Juan to get on the Magic tomorrow. We were scheduled to leave at 6:00am on United from indy and would arrive in San Juan by noon- a full 24 hours ahead of time. We ran into a couple of unforeseen delays (the first 2 parking shuttles were full, when we finally got on there were several stops still as people flew red eyes and were just arriving at 4:45 or so). I saw that time was getting tight to hit the 45 min window before the flight to check bags. We run and get to the premiere desk only to have the kiosks taken by other passengers. When it is clear i log in and am told i missed the 45 window and they could not process my bags or my reservation. I was 2 min late but was in line before the cut off time. the first United CS rep came over and said she couldn't help me with the time window and I would need to rebook on another flight so my luggage could accompany me. I said please she said no. She then looked and said there were no seats avaiable that she could confirm me on today or tomorrow!!! She said standby might work but who knows.

I then called the United premiere desk. They were great and booked me on American to Chicago and then 2 Chicago flights to San Juan. It would leave much later and would get in at 1 am but at least it was confirmed seats I then asked about a flight going to houston and then san juan. I knew the houston flight had 1 seat and was hoping for a 2nd. She said to go back to the counter and see if they could help. Uh oh!

Then steps in "Nana" the supervisor (i think). She heard my plight and started working. She called the gate, called the baggage area and then sent us running to the gate. The houston flight was only 30 min out so we were inside the window of the bags (10 min less than our Washington trip). Fortunately we had TSA pre-check and could run to the gate without going in the long line for TSA. We got to the gate when they were boarding group #4 and walked on the plane! We flew to Houston and then on to San Juan. Nana was able to confirm seats on San Juan also. Come to find out that flight was full also.

The next thing was would our bags show up? And if not on this flight, when? As long as they were in San Juan by noon Sunday it could work (there were a couple of other flights connections they might have used). Instead bags showed up and we were relieved

So, thanks to Nana at United Airlines today for saving the day.

Awesome. Don't forget to write a note to United. I'm sure Nana could use some kudos from her company. :)

Just out of curiosity, how much time did you allow from arrival time at the airport to the time of your flight (ie. how many minutes were you held up between the shuttles and the lines inside?)? I have 2,450 clients flying in and out of Indy this month and I did not anticipate there to be that much shuttle traffic/lines. We were there last year and all 2,000+ left on Memorial Day Monday after the 500 and did not have any issues whatsoever. We schedule an ARRIVAL time at the airport 2 hours or more prior to departure. I am hoping that is still enough or I may need to change a lot of itineraries.

As an aside (but on the topic of airport issues), if you have clients dealing with LaGuardia, PLEASE tell them to add AT LEAST an extra 60-90 minutes on their schedule to get there. It is becoming more and more common to hear about people walking upwards of a mile with luggage because traffic is NOT moving. Also for any pre-arranged car services or uber or left, you have to take a shuttle to a satellite area and that can take a while - then the cars are in a long line to try and get in. It is a big fat mess.

2 hours will be enough. Indy is an easy airport to navigate. I fly out of there every month or so and it has definitely gotten busier in the past 45 days. I have tsa precheck so I can normally drop off bags and be to the gate pretty quickly. My mistake was thinking 5:00 am on a Saturday would be light. I planned on 1 hour because of that. My mistake. I couldn't believe the parking shuttles. It was busier than spring break week

Took about 25-30 minutes on the shuttles

The parking shuttles can be very busy (infrequent, and packed) in the early mornings at IND.

I travel out of IND weekly, and I just Uber/Lyft there. No need to deal with parking. (It helps that I live only 10 minutes away in Plainfield, but even if you're farther, the ride share cost will be pretty comparable with the parking rates.)

I would say 90% are coming from the West and Midwest. Thanks for the heads up. I only have a few coming in from the East Coast. :)

Already did. United responded already as well. They are going to let her managers know about the letter and compliments.
Congrats, I'm glad you made it! Please be sure to post on United's social media pages as well, they could probably use some positive stuff, especially when you can give some kudos to someone by name! Enjoy your cruise.

Glad it worked out for you, this is why you need to have a better plan though. The two minutes should have been waived and never use a kiosk. They should have taken better care for you and allowed you to hate check if you are premier. I'm an Ex Plat with AA and would never have allowed any of that to happen. You lucked out.

Way to go Nana. Hopefuly you will throughly enjoy your trip and have a stress free flight home.

You're welcome! I wasn't sure where your clientele comes from, but figured I'd put it out there - applies to anyone visiting NYC and leaving from LGA also. It is a big, fat, hot mess (best way to say it with the language restrictions on here - lol).
