United Airlines, How bad are they?

I booked our airfare last week, and we will be flying United for the first time. We fly Delta almost exclusively. I wasn't too worried until I looked up ratings for domestic airlines, and United was second to the last in quality. Please, somebody give me some input!

Thanks,

Out of lax, they are rated the worst airline for timeliness, customer service & connections at the terminal accessibility for about 4 years running. If they are running late at l.a., they often bump commuter flights, because they can.

I flew United may of 2000 and my flight was on time and I did have to take this tiny little puddle jumper with one seat on either side from pit to IAD (washington dulles) and it ran on time as well as my jet from IAd to mco. and the way home was the same. But from working next to them I know that during their mechanics slow downs and then the pilots slow downs it was horrible for them with cancelled and delayed flights and such.

An old nursery rhyme best describes my experiences with United. When they are good they are very very good. When they are bad they are horrid. I will be flying them again later this summer. Circumstances dictated it. My cousin recently flew them. While they were late both coming and going, she had enough time between connections that it did not have any significant impact.

I flew them twice last year and this past spring. I found them friendly and on time both ways. Except for a weather problem they were on time last year too. Out of Delta, USAir and United, United is always my first choice out of the Wash. DC area. I recently exchanged vouchers (which they happily provided me when my spring fare dropped) and found it to be easy and the sales rep was a pleasure to deal with. I hope my luck with them continues.

Out of the DC area I have flown United almost exclusively. I have never had a bad experience with them, and when there were mistakes made, they always compensated me adequately.

I do know people that have had problems though. I think it is a crapshoot with airlines. My favorite, may be your least favorite and vice-versa. :)
