Hi. Has anyone heard any updates? I tried googling but I only see news about the 99% vote to strike from over a month ago. Just checking if anyone else has read anything. Still wondering if early December flights will be okay. I know they have a month cooling off period if talks fail, but I have no idea if they are already in it.

It would be huge news and be plastered everywhere if they got released from mediation. There is virtually no chance of that happening prior to the election, and I'm very doubtful that it happens before the end of the calendar year.

Okay thank you!

There are a LOT of steps left before a strike can actually happen. While the members have authorized a strike, United AFA must still request that the National Mediation Board (NMB) release them to strike after demonstrating that negotiations have stalled, which is what then kicks off the 30 day cooling-off period, and they haven't even made that request yet.

Unlike in Europe, pilot and flight attendant strikes in the US require, more or less, the approval of the US President, so they are exceptionally rare these days.

^^ I agree. Voting to AUTHORIZE a strike seemed more like an effort to create leverage at the bargaining table. Flew on United last month and didn't notice any difference in how things were operating. If they did go on strike, people would likely just choose some other airline to travel with since most flights are never 100% full. Perhaps on peak travel days there could be issues, but not anything I would lose sleep over.
