Looking for suggestions for restaurants (non-character) with atmosphere with kids (age 4 and 6).

We've been to WDW past two years and have been to nearly every character meal. The kids really enjoyed them, but last year, with about 3 to go, I could tell my DS was suffering from character meal burn out. I was able to cancel our last to character meals of the trip and reschedule at San Angel Inn and 50's Prime Time and the kids loved them. We are thinking of returning again this year, and while I'm sure to book a couple of character meals, I think I'd like to book more with the unique atmosphere.

I'm considering return trips to San Angel and Prime Time....as well as Coral Reef, Sci-Fi, and Ohana's for supper. We'll probably still hit a couple of character meals, looking at CRT and Chef Mickey's.

Any other suggestions for restaurants I may be overlooking?

My children loved the atmosphere at the WCC. DH and I didn't like the food but the kids were happy and seemed to enjoy the food(esp. the milkshakes). I have also heard the HDDR is very entertaining and your DC might like to try that.

Have you tried Whispering Canyon Cafe? We didn't personally have a great experience there, but we think we might have hit it on an "off" night. It gets rave reviews here, and kids seem to really love it.

Don't know if you are interested in a dinner show, but we adore HDDR. It is awesome for the whole family! They also might enjoy Boma, as the AKL has lots of fun things to look at when you're there.

My niece is helping me answer - she is 10 but her first trip was at 4. She says she liked Beaches and Cream, Rain Forest Cafe and Biergarten

My son loves Biergarten. He's now fourteen, but he first went there at age four. The music is fun and the surroundings are amazing, in my opinion. It's a buffet, so your kids should have no trouble finding things to eat.

Have a great trip!

So funny! I am a slow typist, was typing my response at the exact time you were posting. Looks like it's unanimous!

My guys love Sci Fi and Coral Reef. We usually do just 1 or 2 character breakfasts, and that is plenty. New T-Rex looks pretty cool too!

Definitely Teppan Edo....DS's FAVORITE WDW Experience!

Rainforest Cafe is a neat experience...but our $ was wasted on the food....I would go back only if I had kids in my party that had not experienced it...

CRT is a family tradition for us...but I think EVERYONE should go at least once :goodvibes

There were several places that my boys DS4 and DS7 thought were fun:

- Sci-Fi is their favorite. Sitting in the cars is cool to them and watching the old movies in the dark is very entertaining.
- Teppan Edo has them fascinated. Our chef was very fun. They played tic-tac-to with the onions and zucchini sticks and he made a volcano out of the onion rings. Tossing up all the utensils was fun to watch. It was a great show.
- Toy Story Pizza Planet has some games, so that's a huge hit.
- TRex is amazing. Just walking around and viewing all the exhibits of dinosaurs is fascinating.
- Rainforest Cafe is also themed well. It can be very loud and scary though.
- 50s Prime Time - just OK but they loved the little TV to watch.
- Coral Reef has a wonderful aquarium, but you really need a table up close to see all the marine life. They loved the make your own sundae for dessert.

Have a fun trip and enjoy all the planning!!

For a non-character meal that appeals to kids 4 and 6, I would like to give a strong endorsement for both Whispering Canyon Cafe and Teppan Edo. Both have good food as well as very good entertainment.

I have not yet tried many of the other suggestions listed here so they may also be good.

Where are you staying? Will you have a car? If you are staying at AKL, or if you can get there easily, I'd suggest Boma. The restaurant itself doesn't have any "entertainment" as some of the others do, but the food is good and the resort is beautiful. You could have dinner, then explore the resort. Every night, there is storytelling by the fire pit outside. There is often a parade around the lobby that the kids can participate in. There is usually a CM or two outside at night with night vision goggles so that you can view the animals in the dark.

My son had a blast at both Sci-fi and Coral Reef. We are planning on booking both of those on our next trip again. :goodvibes

Teppan Edo - Our kids ( 6 & 7 ) loved everything about the experience. The food was excellent and the chef was very entertaining. We all loved everything about our meal. :)

All the above posts are right on...When we would go to EPCOT with the kids when they were younger we had lunch at the Garden Grille. The main characters were Chip and Dale but we had others there also.

we loved our dinner at Ohana, they have music and the kids are encoraged to get up and participate :thumbsup2

These are our kids' non-character favorites:

> Ohana dinner/Poly
> Coral Reef/Epcot
> Sci-Fi/HS
> Teppan Edo in Japan/Epcot
> Beaches & Cream/BC
> Espn Club/Boardwalk
> California Grill/CR ~ we're trying this next trip and I suspect it will be an awesome experience seeing Wishes.

My boys were almost 5 and 2.5 the last time we went and they enjoyed Ohanas, Tepan Edo, Coral Reef, and California Grill (my older son LOVED his "sushi" dessert and watching Wishes while eating dessert!).

This time they'll be 7 and 4 we are trying out Whispering Canyon and looking forward to it!!

My kids' favorite Disney restaurant is Teppan Edo. They've loved it since we went and they were little.

DS is now 10.

He seems to love Coral Reef more each visit!

He really enjoyed Chefs de France this past August. Remy was great, the food and atmosphere were great, and we were seated next to the window and watched a really funny street performance take place outside.

One thing we love to do is take the ferry over to Ft. Wilderness, have dinner at Trail's End (YUMMY). It has some really neat things for kids (including "stuffed animals") then head over to Chip 'n Dale's Campfire Sing A Long and Movie. It makes for a very nice evening. Here are some pics...
