Unhappy Kids Because of Age Limits :/ Update

Well, in this case, the price is what caught my attention in the first place. I can book the reservation, but she is charged the adult price $79.24. The child price is $167.24 because a child gets a doll as part of the tea. Disney has no problem letting me book the reservation for 2 adults. But, she wants a doll and to be treated like a princess. I guess maybe I should book it as two adults and just see how uncomfortable everyone there gets when she wants a doll

Just because it looks like it will be awesome does not mean it will be. You can research everything, hear rave reviews, be so excited to do it, and then it turns out to be a snoozefest.

Exactly. She was young enough to do it per WDW, but the average age of the girls attending when we were there was closer to 4-5.

Bad idea. They will not be prepared for an extra "child" and she most likely will not be allowed to do anything the little girls do but will sit and eat with the adults. They might feel a bit uncomfortable, but the rule is not theirs to make or bend so why do this to them. Much more likely is going to be your child feeling bad if you tell her you guys are going anyway and you will try to guilt them into giving her a doll. I think you need to be honest and tell her she is over the child age limit and you guys can go and watch her younger cousins or choose another tween geared activity. The GF tea or a manicure at the spa might be received well. While I agree that 11 should still be little girl, it is what it is so make it easier for her to deal, not harder.

As far as the age on the pirate cruise, there are also rules to prevent older children/teens/adults being with children without their parents present. There are plenty of 14 year olds that I would never want around my child in that setting. I'm sure your child is fine, but they can not make a judgment call. Liability issues.

My DD got a mani/pedi for my sister's wedding two years ago and she loved it. Disney has every right to set their age limits, and they are firm. Expecting them to make an exception is only going to be a let down. Book appropriate activities within the rules. There are many extras offered. Find one that everyone can participate in. It really isn't that difficult.

I would try to schedule a different special day with her. Maybe a mother/daughter spa day. You could even buy a AG type doll and a princess dress (littledressupshop has doll princess dresses) to give to her during your special event.

Called dining and it seems she is still a child if you call on the phone. If you try to book online, the ages are 4-10, but over the phone the ages are 4-11. I know for most kids it would be dull and boring, but dd loves little kids and wants to be a teacher when she grows up. She will be very happy about this! The 14 y/o is too old for the Pirate Adventure. Just something more for my teenager to have to deal with I guess.

Would she enjoy BBB? At 11 she is within the age limit and perhaps you can book a meal at the castle. Aurora visits there. My daughter didn't get to do BBB until she was 9, so that is older than most I guess, but matters not to her. She wants to do it until she ages out.

Now granted she doesn't wear the Disney Princess dress for it. At 9 I had CRT booked for dinner after so I got her a long formal gown in her favorite color. I found it on ebay for $20. She wore some sandals from home and Disney princess accessories.

We did CRT, but then we stopped at Town Square Theatre on the way out. This was in 2012, so Belle was there. But Aurora was there in 2013.

Last summer no CRT, so we did a different look, more comfortable for running around the park. She got lots of compliments. Skirt is from ebay. Other stuff except the vest is from local stores.



This May she'll be 11. I told her we could do BBB with CRT one more time. Then we'll switch to Pirate's League since her brother is old enough and wants to do it. This year's dress is more similar to the first one. It's just lilac instead of pink. Also purchased on ebay.

My mother is booking it separately from my sister and niece in case she wants to cancel it (my mother not sister). I could see grandparents booking it separately in case they want to go with their grand kids

Beautiful Pictures! I'll bet she's the sweetest girl around These are moments you can never recapture. I was happy to learn today that if you call and book the reservation, the age limit is 11, so this will be our last year Glad to see there are other princesses around at this age.

DD (14) would not like anything girly. She wants the Pirate Adventure. I think DH will take her horseback riding. It's just so hard to plan activities together for all the different age groups we have at this grand gathering. It's the older kids that are jealous of the little kid activities! And, the parents were hoping the older kids would keep an eye on the 4y/o on the Pirate Adventure. Now it will be even harder because DD-11 can go to the Princess Tea and the Pirate Adventure with her cousins. The 14y/o will be mad because she is the oldest and will be left out. UGH!

She will be bored to tears on the Pirate Adventure. It is definitely geared for the younger set. She can get a makeover at Pirates league, that is for ages 3 and up.

I am really surprised with all the "bored to tears" posts I've seen on this thread. What do you do when you have a family party and you have kids ranging in age from 4 months to 14 y/o? I guess, from what it sounds like, that you are all miserable and bored to tears if baby has a first birthday or something. Really? My kids really enjoy their family time and have lots of fun together. That's why we decided to do a vacation with everyone. My point is, it's a real shame that one of the kids will be excluded because of age. That's all.

My point is, it's a real shame that one of the kids will be excluded because of age. That's all.

When we get together with DH's side of the family, there are 7 kids ages 4 to 17. We all enjoy each other's company, but we are also not stuck on a boat in a lagoon with strangers that are 4 and 5 years old, either.

It is sad that she can't do it if she's interested, but if it is really important they all do the same thing, everyone can do Pirates league which gets rave reviews.

That does stink! I have a 13 year old who often feels left out having 7 and 8 year old siblings who seem to get to do more as well so I get where you're coming from

I totally get it. We have 6 kids ages 2, 4, 7, 8, 13 and 16. My 13 and 16 year olds will help the 2 and 4 year olds with the coconut races at Ohana and many other things not necessarily because they want to themselves (but when they do it's nice to have the younger ones as excuses lol) but also because they enjoy being with the younger ones and watching them experience new things. We are a homeschooling family so they are together 24/7 so they are all very close.

I totally get it. We have 6 kids ages 2, 4, 7, 8, 13 and 16. My 13 and 16 year olds will help the 2 and 4 year olds with the coconut races at Ohana and many other things not necessarily because they want to themselves (but when they do it's nice to have the younger ones as excuses lol) but also because they enjoy being with the younger ones and watching them experience new things. THANK YOU! Finally someone gets it! You would think at WDW of all places a 14 y/o could act like a kid while helping with the younger ones

My older child is like that with her little brother. They are almost 7 years apart. When we go to Disney we do the meal at Hollywood and Vine each time. My daughter tries to act like she doesn't like the characters, but she regularly watches the Disney Jr show with her brother. When she was 9, and Jake invited the children up to dance with him, the small children were hesitant. They asked my daughter to start it off so the little children would feel more comfortable. She said she did it for her brother.


They ended up just watching her and clapping. But they did get up and join the conga line later. My daughter had to lead them though.

Thankfully ds as well as the other children that were there were braver when we went in 2013.
