Unfortunate change in plans

We have exchanged into the Beach Club Villas (studio) starting May 29th. My parents were planning to join us to celebrate my daughter's birthday. However, unfortunately, my dad passed away last Saturday.

My question is: Can we purchase DVC points and upgrade our room from a studio to a one bedroom or two bedroom. I just don't think my mom is going to be ready to stay by herself.

Thanks for your help.

Are you an owner at an Interval International (II) affiliated timeshare, and this is an II exchange? Or are you a DVC owner at another DVC resort, and using the word "exchange" to refer to a reservation at a resort other than your home resort?

Are you asking about purchasing an ownership at a DVC resort, or are you asking about renting points from a DVC member?

If you mean you have exchanged another timeshare for a Studio at BCV, then you will not be able to upgrade except thru II.

If, by "purchase DVC points" you mean renting "points" from a member, that would mean that the member would have to make a reservation for you using their points. DVC points can't be used by anyone except the member who owns them. They cannot be added to your exisiting exchange- as the member will have no access to that reservation.

You could try to rent what you want from a member, but the exchange you already have in place cannot be changed unless II is willing to do that.

Good Luck!

I am very sorry to hear about your father, he is in a better place now, i know its harder especially around the holidays, i loss dmil
at easter time, and we also planned a wdw trip to help with the healing process. pixie dust to you, your family & and you mother

your question: what do you mean you exchanged into the beach club?

if you did an exchange thru international , rci, or etc. no you can not change dates, resorts,or rooms.

i didnt know that II could do that(thanks webmasterDoc)

if you rented points from another dvc member, yes you go back to who you rented from and im sure they will be happy to help you.

if you exchanged your timeshare direct to a dvc member, yes you still go back to that member and they will help you

or if it was some sort of an rci or etc. exchanged, find out if you can rent those ressies out (change the ressies into someone elses name)and with the money rent out the points you need for your 1 bedroom(4 people) 2 bedroom(8 people):sunny:

In most cases, II won't be willing/able to help either, but they are the only ones who could make the change in this situation.

They (II) will have a policy for cancelling/rebooking an exchange depending on time frame and most likely with some extra fees involved.

Good Luck. Sorry about your loss. The trip may well be a great opportunity for your mother to spend some quality time with your family in a great setting.

Theoretically II could allow you to rebook for another date/unit size. They will also allow you to cancel. In any case, they will charge you another exchange fee if they rebook it for you, even if it's just a few days different. If you cancel, they keep the exchange fee and you get a generic week that's good for a year. You must do so outside 60 days for full functionality but you are well out of that range for now. They will not search for another unit while you keep the one you have but you can call them as often as you want to check on availability. You may want to go to TUG to the II board and explain your situation. Craig Urbine, VP Customer Service, may be able to direct you further. He tries not to get involved in individual cases but should be able to offer more advice than any of us can. Good luck.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. I lost my father in August.

I can't add anything to what has already been said but I do have another suggestion. If you can't make a change to your reservation (and I'm assuming you have 2 studios since you're worried about your mother staying alone), would it be possible for your daughter to stay in the room with your mother?

Just a thought! Good luck!

Donna
