As promised, I am going to give details on some of the Restaurants at WDW that I just visited and ate at for the very first time. I arrived Thanksgiving Day and departed December 7. Here is one of my favorites!

Kona Cafe

As my BF was amazed that I had never had Tonga Toast, we decided to try the Kona Cafe at the Polynesian Resort for breakfast one morning. We were a party of five and were seated within five minutes of arriving at around 11 am.

We always inquire as to any discounts that may be used at any particular restaurant. After going thru the list of Disney Club, AP, DVC, AAA, Entertainment Club and even Senior Citizens, LOL, we were told that none were available there. Well actually our waiter was fairly new and he initially thought that one would be accepted, but alas, none were.

I enjoy coffee and have it each morning, sometimes multiple cups, lol. I was urged to order the French Press Pot for $6.99 which is 100% Kona Coffee. Here is a description that they provide of the coffee:

Kona Coffee - It starts in Kona, one of the most fertile regions of Hawaii. The combination of fertile soil and a mild mountain climate produce one of the richest coffees in the World. These beans are then flown to Central Florida where they are roasted to our strict specifications. We then grind the beans to order to create the "Perfect Cup"

And let me tell you they are not kidding!! This was THE best coffee I have ever tasted. The French Press Pot is more than enough for two people. Unless, of course, you are very territorial and insist on drinking it all yourself, LOL! The pot has a handle on top that you press so far down to push the water thru the coffee itself. Wow!! It is delicious!! Warning!! Caffeine high may result, LOL! I loved it and would highly recommend it.

I had the orange juice and John enjoyed the Lilikoi Juice which consists of Orange, Passion Fruit and Guava blended together! Yum!! They also offer Fresh Pineapple Juice on the menu as well as other assorted juices. Samoan Smoothies are offered and may be a nice choice for any children dining there.

The Tonga Toast is fabulous!! It comes out in a huge block on a plate with your choice of ham, bacon or sausage alongside. It is banana stuffed Sourdough bread which is then rolled in Cinnamon Sugar. Warning, you may want to try it before lathering it in maple syrup. It is very sweet before the syrup is added. I would highly recommend this choice for breakfast.

Other breakfast entrees include a fruit plate, ham and cheese omelet, eggs benedict, eggs, pancakes, and a beef tenderloin filet. Sides available include bagel, cereal, muffin, sausage gravy and biscuits as well as oatmeal and grits.

The Tonga Toast is priced at $7.99, the omelet is $7.29 and pancakes (several varieties) run $7.29 too. This breakfast will fill you up till dinner time, trust me on that! :)

Yum!!! I really want to try the tong toast! It sounds so good! I have had lunch at Kona last year, and dinner there this year, so I guess I will just have to try breakfast there next year. Thanks so much for the review.

Great review Carol! Im glad you enjoyed your new discovery. Thats how we felt when we found it. We ended up eating there 5 times in less than a year(2 breakfasts, 3 dinnres). And I agree about being filled up for the day. We ate there one morning before we went on a cruise. We completely skipped the embarkation buffet. ;)
I think the Kona is hidden jewel. Every time we are there its deserted and yet its soooo good.

After reading all the reviews on this board, my bf and I definitely want to try Kona for breakfast. The tonga toast sounds yummy.
I was wondering.....CarolannK....did you have a ps?? I don't want to overplan and make too many ps's, since bf is a play it by eat kind of person, but I also don't want to wait forever to be seated.
Do you think we will need one?

No PS for Kona Cafe. In fact John dislikes planning ahead so the only PS's we made were for the same day, and usually for within a few hours of our decision to dine. We like impromput decisions about where to eat LOL!

The only one we were not successful in obtaining the same day was the LIberty Tree Tavern. We did dine there for dinner the night of MVMCP however. That is another story for later on though, LOL! :)

I would like to second this. We have eaten at the Kona once for breakfast and 3 times for dinner. The mahi-mahi is excellent as is the prime rib, and they have some awesome tropical drinks--the island sunset is especially good. I get so full that I have yet to try one of their awesome looking desserts!
It is usually not very full, but last Friday we had a 5PM PS before the MVMCP and a LOT of people were pouring in behind us to do the same thing.

Thanks for the excellent review. I could almost taste that coffee.
Its on the list for breakfast in January:)

Thanks for the review. Kona is the place we now eat breakfast on our MK park day (used to be Tony's, but now that's long gone). I agree about the coffee--strong, and very tasty!!

Thanks for the review Carol :)

I love the Kona cafe...I had breakfast there a while back at about 10.30, walk-in, no problem! I must admit though - I was actually disappointed in the Tonga Toast. I'd heard so many people raving, that I don't really know what I expected, but I know it didn't live up to my expectations :( A great place though, and I really want to go back and eat dinner there sometime.

I have to second Carol's response to the coffee....AWESOME!!!!!!!!

I am very picky about my coffee and don't like it really strong. I thought this would be the case there also but not too strong too me. A little cream and it was awesome!!!!

I ate there for my first time last week also and although I didn't try the Tonga Toast (bananas and french toast together don't thrill me too much) but the eggs and sausage were great. I was a little disappointed with the potatoes (they were a bit crunchy for me on the bigger pieces but they were still okay). And the OJ was very very very good - again, something I'm very picky about - don't like too much pulp!
