Uneven Points

How do some point allotments get to be an uneven number? I am looking to purchase my first resale contract and am noticing that some points are not a multiple of 5 (ex. 164) How does that happen? At what point were members allowed to purchase such an odd point total?

You can purchase any amount of points over 25. I actually have a contract that's 88 and another that's 27 and those were bought direct. Sent from my iPhone using DISBoards

If you look at the points charts, a 7 night stay in the various seasons will likely have "uneven" points. Some people, when first buying, will buy exactly xxx number of points to use for a 7 night stay in a 1BR during a specific travel season. That is what we did with our first contract, which is how we ended up with 268 points.

The fatal flaw to that kind of exact purchasing is something called a point re-allocation. Within about 2 years of buying our 268 points for a 1BR for 7-nights, the point requirement for the same time period went up to 273. Suddenly we were 5 points short. That situation leads to a potentially incurable illness called addonitis. That, and finding out that 7 nights in a 365-day period is simply not enough Disney.

So true - works even better if you pay your dues in a lump sum. I get a fresh booster shot every January!

We did a 61 pt add-on direct because that and the 190 pts we had gave what we thought 2 the time was a perfect number for our 2 trips a yr. Opps then we added a 3rd time .
