Can a person receive unemployment benefits when they were offered a good job, but turned it down?

I sure hope not, but I would guess that the law differs from state to state.

I don't think so, not unless they're going to lie about the job offer.

Yes.
I worked for a bank which got bought out by another bank. They did offer me 2 different jobs, but both would have given me a 1 1/2 hour commute (3 hrs round trip). With an almost 2yo, I didnt want that so I left. I was given a bonus for staying on until the end of the merger and I was able to collect umemployment with the reason being "Job elimination, due to company acquisition". Others were also able to do this when they didnt want the jobs they were offered.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not trying to judge or anything. I just heard of someone who lost her job and was offered a job (with a different company). She decided to turn it down and keep looking. But she also mentioned receiving unemployment for awhile. I just didn't like the sound of that. I guess perhaps there are certain stipulations that would still allow you to receive benefits. I don't really want to research it a whole lot because it really doesn't affect me. I was just curious.

I think there is a difference between not wanting a 1.5 hour commute when you are a working parent with a toddler and not taking a job with a reasonable commute just because you feel like looking around some more.
