Underwhelming restaurants?

We try to avoid eating at DCA because I feel the choices are just so-so and frankly- I'd rather be at DL. We have done Taste Pilots a couple times and it was ok. Not the worst, but not the best. In general we try to stay away from a burger when visiting because if I'm going to eat a burger while on vacay, it's gonna be at In-N-Out!:thumbsup2
Speaking of Taste Pilots, I like them, but the last two times I've been in about a year the burgers were a little underdone for my taste (mostly pink in the middle). Next time I will ask for a medium-well burger.

Wow, thanks for all the responses! Food really is subjective, so it can be so hard to decide. Glad to see we have some consensus on a few places.
I want to add the Village Haus to my original list, though I haven't eaten there since they changed the menu. I've also never tried Tomorrowland Terrace, because it seems to get such terrible reviews.
I also agree with all those posts about pricing being an issue! The post about pasta at Red Rockett's was spot on, we eat that most trips when we don't want to leave Tomorrowland. But if I got the same thing with your WOC dining package, I'd be VERY disappointed!

I had no idea there was a hot link...sounds kinda icky to me.:scared: I have to be honest and say that we don't really eat that much at DCA, so I didn't know they had a corndog castle or that it was links instead of dogs, but thanks for the warning.

They have regular corn dogs as well as the hot links. IIRC they used to have to have a cheese stick that was covered in cornmeal and deep fried, I may be wrong tho. :) I want to say I'm right though and the kids had one....
Corn Dog Castle was closed for some time while they did construction. You may have simply missed it.

I actually love the PWC in DCA, the salads, and soups in a bread bowl are an excellent value. Also love the ambiance of eating by the water, watching the Funwheel!

As far as over rated, our last experience at the Carnation was underwhelming, but we usually love it, so will go back.

I am not a fan of the Mexican place inside of DCA. I do love Lucky Fortune though. I just get my bowl without the veggies. Just the way I like it.

i like it better than Rancho thats for sure..i think though Im picky about mexican food because we can get it at every street corner here and I prefer taquerias over actual sit down mexican restaurants

The all-time worst? Storytellers Cafe. We had the buffet ( ordering off the menu may be better) and it left us completely underwhelmed.

you said it!! i went twice..once for breakfast and once for dinner and I swore that was it...i think its the worst of the worst...

We also liked Hungry Bear (as far as burgers and chicken nuggets go). Wine Country Trattoria is one of my favorites. .

i know a lot of people werent happy with the sweet potato fry option at HB but I love them...i ate there 2 weekends ago and although I liked everything i ate that weekend there, HB was my favorite meal of all..their burgers are so yummy...and although WCT isnt my favorite, I do like it...a lot!!!

The places you would expect to be good, but aren't:

Blue Bayou-sorry folks, the view doesn't help the food go down

Storytellers Cafe dinner buffet-way overpriced for the selection and quality

again, amen to ST ...and I agree with BB theory except...they make the best jambalaya i have ever had...its really spicy and very rare that I find a place willing to make it that spicy...even JK wouldnt make it that spicy and they took it back and said they would add more chilis to it..still didnt do it for me...its the only thing I will order from BB...

I like the corn dogs from anywhere in the park so I tried a corn hot link (or whatever it was called) from the Corn Dog Castle one time. Not for me, not again. Too greasy and heavy for inside cornmeal batter I think.

I will state that Disneyland has some of the worst fast-food in the business.
AMEN!!!

Worst WDW:
Coral Reef. This place is horrible. Food cold, dry, and uninspired. A million kids yelling and running around to look at the fish only add to the misery.

I didnt eat there because of how many bad reviews there was..i was scurred:rotfl:

Best WDW:
O'hana hands down. please PLEASE make a clone of this at DLR!

didnt go there either because reviews were bad and they stopped the potatoes and changed to noodles:crazy2:

And yes...Rainforest Cafe is indeed a strange one. DS loves the environment and it's nice that the menu has so many options. When we usually go, I have a coupon so I can save a little money but eh- I'm not really wowed. I think the reason we've been more then once is because I know exactly what I'm getting here. Hmm...can that be a reason to recommend it? The food is mediocre, it's crowded but the "storms" sure are cool.

I think we may skip it this year and try someplace new in DTD.:thumbsup2

i like the lettuce wraps from there so when I go thats the only thing i order now...if they didnt have them, I wouldnt go at all

Wanted to make sure you understood that I really like the Corn Dog Cart. But at DCA Corndog Castle, they serve one with a hot-LINK instead of a hot-DOG and the hotlink one is kinda yucky.

yeah i was going to say the same thing....you just ordered the wrong one...and YES they do have the cheese dog and I LOVE IT:love:...i really wish they would make one corn dog with hot dog and the cheese inside...oh god yum!!....wonder who i could contact to ask them to make that
:scratchin

Well, I will continue to believe in the wonderfulness of Club 33 until I can judge for myself. LMAO!!!! :)

And you definitely should :thumbsup2 It was a very nice experience, although truthfully I was a little new to the whole thing to really appreciate it at the time ... I knew a guy (uppity up at work) who was a member and he invited me with some friends, but I really had no clue what it was at the time, had never heard of Club 33 before :confused3 Probably why the first thing I did was drink a bunch of champagne before eating and happily wiped my face with the napkins ... only afterward did I realize that it was some kind of exclusive thing hehehe. If I get a chance again I might try it on a clean palate that hadn't been washed over by champagne first LOL. Ever since I ate there, every time I walk by the building the first thought in my mind is "hey there are people secretly getting drunk in there!" :lmao::lmao::lmao:

THIS!:thumbsup2

(Sadly there aren't any In-n-Out Burgers where I live.)

Taste Pilots

Cafe Orleans for a sit-down family meal (WORST service and takes FOREVER); however, very good if you just want to sit down and get some fries

Naples

Gibson Girl Ice Cream--very underwhelming imo (that is the one on Main St, right?)

Whitewater Snacks

I personally enjoy BB very much. I always order the same thing: surf and turf, and it has always been great. I would much rather eat there and split a meal with my dd where we get waited on and have sides and extras than spend almost as much to get a blech burger at a serve yourself joint.

Me either! They are only in SoCal, Vegas and I think maybe Arizona. The reason behind this is they want their food to be fresh. So they have locations that are within a day of the warehouse. If it's not close to the warehouse, they won't open a location...:sad2:

they are all over california not just so cal...

see now thats what i forgot...imo it is the WORST restaurant of all at DLR

In N Out is in Texas too, and I believe one other state (either Idaho or Utah, I forget). I like Fatburger a lot better than In N Out personally, there are a couple locations in OC, worth a visit for sure if you're into burgers. Get the Kingburger with bacon and egg :thumbsup2

I love them both!

If you like hot links, and you like corn dogs, I gotta give a shout out to the merger of the two as being clearly superior to either one by itself :thumbsup2

I like CO, but not everyone does. :) I love the Pomme Frites!! :)

As for I&O yes, they are all over CA, we have one very close to home, but it's not my favorite. It IS good, don't get me wrong, but I like Five Guys better. :)

I'm glad i remember the cheese dog correctly, I too wish they would combine it with a regular dog, that would be heaven on a stick! LOL

Hmmm...DLR dislikes?

Tortilla Joe's in DD. DH and I ate there once in '07. Sorry I can't recall what either of us ordered but we didn't care for the food and haven't been back.

LaBrea Bakery in DD. There was only one item there that we liked there and they got rid if it. Their menu is unappealing and the service inconsistent.

Haven't made up my mind about the Pacific Wharf Cafe. Ate there once. Had the chicken salad in a bread bowl and it was bland and dry. I think I'd be willing to try it again because DH's soup was decent.

And I know we're not supposed to list our faves BUT we like the Little Red Wagon, the Jolly Holiday, and Ralph Brennan's. Looking forward to trying the Carthay and Earl of Sandwich when it opens! And we wish there was a Cheesecake Factory in DD although we know there is one nearby at Anahiem Garden Walk.
:goodvibes

oh yeah i forgot about 5 guys...those are popping up all over the place now...

when is the last time you went??? if not recently then i would suggest a consideration of returning...they have recently gone through a refurb and had some menu changes and its quite nice:goodvibes

Five guys is awesome. In and Out waaaaaaaaaaay over rated. I agree about Fatburger as well. I like it better than In and Out as well. Now back to the topic at hand. ;)

I don't like Village Haus or whatever it is that's in Fantasyland by Casey jr's train or whatever. The food wasn't all that great in my opinion.

only have been to disneyland 1 time but Tomorrow land terrace was the worst. they were very slow and the burger buns were so dry the cracked and were cold, although the kids nuggets were good, the fries cold and stale

I'm finding moving between this and the dinning reviews with pictures thread fascinating. Over there it's all "Disneyland, yum!" and here it's "eh, I've had better." I'm finding the different perspectives on the same places helpful. Thank you.
