Underwater digital camera recommendations

DBF would like a waterproof (underwater) digital camera for his birthday. Does anyone have one they like or suggestions? I would like to NOT go over $400.

Dicapac waterproof cases for my Canon camera and it works awesomely! I just got back from 10 days in Hawaii and we snuba'd with it. For $30 it was worth it.

I have this canon too. I have been happy with the photos I have taken both in and out of the water and have received compliments on them as well

Canon D10 plus a photo editing program to pull the excess blue out of the underwater shots will get you good results at the price point you are looking at. Here are a couple of my pictures using this camera:

Dh had an Olympus Tough and we love it. After 2 years of use the seal broke but I think that is our fault since DH took the camera diving and way below what it was supposed to be and still worked and got great pictures. I should added he jump of the plane in the water (military training) so that might have something to do with it.

I'll add another recommendation for the Canon D10, we went scuba diving in Hawaii and another diver had this camera and the pictures were amazing. He said he's taken it down as deep as 100 feet, and the only problem he had was he couldn't switch between camera and video mode. It was also nice and compact, easy to carry.

I have had 3 Olympus Stylus models. And have had problems with seals in 2 of them. ("They" do say you need to have the seal maintained annually, neither of these either made it to a year.) I got them at LLBean outlet, so they replaced them. I have to say I'd have been hesitant to buy them otherwise.

Underwater photos and videos are good, as are outdoor pictures in good light. Indoor photos with flash leave something to be desired. (Ok, not horrible, but I'm used to a DSLR.)
