has anyone tried out the underwater digital camera in the next catalogue. i thought it would be a good idea for my discovery cove and disney water park days, but at only £35, was wondering about picture quality??

thanks

we havent tried the Next one but we bought a under water throw away camera for our trip to discovery cove in 2005 and the pictures were fine. I think it was about £5.00. :thumbsup2

DH has bought a waterproof camera casing for his digital camera. It was quite expensive, I had mentioned the throw away cameras but he was not interested in trying those. He tried it out in our pond but the water was a bit cloudy and the fish were the other end of the pond!!!

That price does sound a bit cheap for a decent quality camera.

If you dont want to go down the waterproof digital way I can recommend the disposal Fuji waterproof camera from Walmart. They are only about $7. The picutre quality is V good and they have a band which is handing for tying around your swimming costume.

I normally buy a few when I am over there and bring some back to that if I even go on a non US holiday I have my camera ready to go.

i used a throw away one last year, which was fine, i just thought it might be cool to view the pics straight away and be able to use a self timer for pics together
xx

$7 is around £3.70 so thats even better value if they are good quality pictures :goodvibes

I'd recommend these as well. :thumbsup2

We've only ever used the waterproof disposables too. Definately buy out there-alot cheaper! Pictures were fine (Kodak). We had some hillarious pictures - some of the best ones were 'unplanned' or didn't turn out as we expected. Kids had great fun with them.

We've got a waterproof digital camera, the Pentax Optio Wpi. It is obviously a lot more expensive than a single use camera but it's brilliant. Used it at Blizzard Beach last year and works perfectly. We're planning on upgrading to the new version (Pentax Optio W30 which is about £170 for a 7 megapixel camera), so if anyone is interested in buying our other camera (go to www.pentax.co.uk photo - product range and then previous models for details), let me know.

My parents bought the kids a waterproof casing with camera that you just had to put the film in. They were only about £6 or so in the airplane magazine last time we flew. I usually just use the free film that I got from developing the year before in it.

I was put off the waterproof disposable cameras because it has an ASO of 800 which I thought would be affected by the various x ray machines the bags have to go through.

Another alternative is a waterproof bag from Aquapac. They do bags plus special camera bags that you can take photos with your camera inside. I actually use these bags to carry my camera around in Florida, to protect the camera from any heavy rain showers we may have. I think the compact camera bag is about £20.

Those sound good; do you have a link? :)

We've got a waterproof digital camera, the Pentax Optio Wpi.

I've just been looking at the W30, it gets good reviews and you can get one on Amazon for about £150.
I would either go for a good waterproof one or stick to single use. Anything in between, I personally would avoid.
I bought a waterproof case made by Canon for an Ixus I had a couple of years ago, but aside from being over a hundred pounds it was very bulky.
Waterproof cameras seem to sell well on ebay if you bought it and then decided you didn't want it.

I like the Pentax waterproof one as it means I only have to take 1 camera with me. Especially at Disney I like to limit the things I have to drag around all day. It's nice when you go on Splash Mountain or any other wet ride and not have to worry about your camera. And it's a pretty sturdy camera too, we've actually dropped ours a few times and it still works perfectly (just a few scratches)
