Hi everyone,
I booked 2X,2B2B accommodations for use in late-ish December. There is a small chance I may have to cancel one of the two. I don't want to lose those points. In fact I would want to use them for a vacation in Dec 2014. Can I re-bank them for 2014? Or do I lose them? Would it then be best to rent them out? Help. I'm a newbie and need to understand my options.
If the reservation is canceled 31 or more days before arrival, the points used will be returned to your account to be banked or used according to the usual limitations. If they are points that have already been banked, they cannot be banked again and must be used by the end of their Use Year. If they can be banked, that needs to be done by the end of the 8th month of your Use Year. If they were borrowed points, they will remain in the Use Year into which they were borrowed and must be used by the end if that Use Year or lost.
If the reservation is canceled 30 days or less before the arrival date, the points are returned to your account as Holding points where they can only be used to make a reservation within 60 days of arrival. They cannot be banked and will expire at the end of their Use Year.
If the reservation(s) involve any banked or borrowed points, as Dean suggested, I'd contact MS to make sure that the reservation not canceled has used the banked/borrowed points and the points returned to your account from the canceled reservation would still have opportunity to be banked - depending on your Use Year.
If you wish, you can also provide more information about your Use Year and the status of those points and someone here can likely advise the way to minimize any loss of your points.
If there are points returned to your account that cannot be banked, an option would be to offer to make a reservation for someone else via the
DVC Rent/Trade Board or to contact
www.DVCrequest.com, a rental broker and DIS advertiser, to assist with the rental.
Good luck!
