This is an e-mail that I wrote to Mary at Mousesavers.com thought she should know since she has them on her website.

"This past October I order tickets from Undercover Tourist via the newsletter link I was very happy with the options and speed of service. This past weekend I took my 7 day park hopper with plusses to the Downtown Disney Guest Services location with the hope of upgrading to a 10 day non-expiring hopper with plusses. I was informed that the ticket was an “international wholesale ticket” and it was not normally eligible for upgrading, I was asked for ID to prove my country of residence (Canada is not international in Disney's eyes and never has been), then I was asked what company I purchased it from, I informed them Undercover Tourist. The CM took the ticket to a back room and I was given the option to upgrade with a credit from the 7 day ticket at the value that Undercover Tourist paid for it, not what I paid for it to Undercover Tourist or it face value. The upgrade cost ended up being $259 instead of approx $198, including taxes. I ended up paying for Undercover Tourist’s profit twice; their site does not inform their North American clients that they are selling over-seas tickets.

I think that maybe you(Mary) should look at another company to recommend as a ticket agent, as there was another DIS board member who had this same issue with Undercover Tourist tickets, in November, and the holder of those tickets wasn’t able to upgrade at all. I was lucky to at least have been given the option, even if it did cost me an extra $60 to do so. If it is an issue of organization, tickets getting mixed up, then they need to get better at that, but if it is just a matter of buying cheaper, non-North American, tickets then it is wrong to not at the very least inform clients that upgrading is not going to be an option on ticket purchased via Undercover Tourist."

Beware that if you buy tickets from U T that you may not be able to upgrade them and that you will not know this until you attempt to upgrade at WDW. I lost every penny of savings plus about $40 more.

Mary responded, and let me know that Undercover Tourist is sure that it is a DTD GS training issue, althought this was presented to a supervisor. With only the offer of orginal purchase (by U T) value for a credit.

I just bought 2 adult and 1 child 5 day from the Disney store and it only cost me $30 more total. I figured I was better off paying a bit more and getting them in my hand at that time.

I had no problem with my UT tickets. Like with many things at Disney, if you don't like the answer one CM gives you try someone else. I've had them refuse to do many things that I know can be done. What they really mean is that they don't know how to do it or that they've made incorrect assumptions. The next person you try has no problem doing what you know the first person should have been able to do.

My one suggestion is that it is always easier to do ticket changes at the parks Guest Services. Most of the problems I hear seem to come from using Dowtown Disney GS.

I have had the same problem at DTD GS trying to upgrade a MYW ticket purchased with Airmiles. The CM wanted me to pay the difference between the price airmiles paid and the gate price of the upgrade. Since then I have done any upgrading at a theme park, they seem to be more knowledgable. ( although I did have a problem with one CM at MGM GS, but I insisted he ask someone how to carry out the upgrade and low and behold the CM sitting next to him was able to talk him through the transaction.) If the CM seems unsure, move on to the next CM.

This post brought up a similar issue with tickets that I had from UT. Last month I was exchanging 2/10 day non-expiring hoppers with 6 pluses. One ticket had been purchased in Aug. before the price increase for $444.95 and one was purchased after for $491.95. Both were unused tickets and I wanted to exchange them for 2 annual passes in Epcot well they did upgrade them with no problem BUT I was only given a credit of $411 each. By my calculations it should have been an almost even swap but that was non the case. E-mailing Mary was a great idea and I think I will do the same.

Lessons learned, don't go to DTD GS, even the supervisors don't seem to know what they are doing. And then inquire of any CM at any GS if they actually have done this type of upgrade before.

There was a recent post on the theme parks board, with an issue similar to this. Undercover Tourist responded directly and fixed the problem. I believe that they are now recommending that any upgrades be done at the 4 parks, and to avoid Downtown Disney. For some reason their system is showing these tickets as overseas tickets, which they are not.

Here is the link.

I have used UT for tickets before and never had any problems, however I have never upgraded them.
