Hello! I'm not sure I'm posting this in the right spot - if not, please let me know where I should repost.

I was wondering how dining works for Under 3, specifically, Akershus. It looks like the meals are pre-plated, so would my daughter just eat from mine? I read somewhere that it's also an "all you care to eat" - how does that work if it's pre-plated? Thanks!

They have like a salad bar with salads, cheeses, sliced meat (like deli meat). This is the all you care to eat part. You can get whatever from the bar for the under 3 year old on their own plate. The meals come out preplated and you can just use an extra plate to share anything you ordered with her.

for kids under age 3 (that are able to eat food), they will be able to pick something from the kids menu & are there is no charge for it. breakfast is served family style but lunch & dinner are plated meals. my daughter has had the grilled hot dog & chicken breast as her meals when we visited for lunch & dinner. they also let you substitute the side items as well for the kids.

they can also have their own plate of food from the cold buffet as well.

That first part is not right. If you order from the kids menu, you have to pay for it even if the child is under 3. Only at all you can eat places do kids under 3 eat for free. Maybe you got a server that was nice, but they are not supposed to do that.

I have never been charged for a kids meal at akershus. Ever. I even said she could eat off my plate but the cm specifically said she would get her meal included (which translates to free).

This has happened at garden grill, akershus for lunch & dinner (5 times) & at CRT she even got a meal.

My daughter is now 3 and we have been going to Disney every month since April 2012 & I have not paid for a kids meal for her at akershus.

When I ordered her a kids meal at mama melrose, I did pay for it. Same with le cellier and California grill. However at akershus, I was not charged for her lunch or dinner.

Well then you've gotten lucky. That may be the unofficial policy, but that doesn't mean there aren't servers who are sticklers for rules(or new) who don't realize that's how things are done. So if I were the OP I would go in assuming that they have to pay and just be pleasantly surprised if they don't. Same with CRT. And Garden Grill is all you can eat so of course kids under 3 would be free.

Have you been to garden grill? They have a separate child's platter that is $15.99 for children 3 and up. The platter is roasted chicken drum stick. sweet potato fries, mac & cheese and Broccoli. It's a completely different meal for the kids.

I've been twice with my daughter. When my daughter was 2 she got the platter for free. Now that she is 3, they charged me for her platter.

I don't think it's a matter of luck. Like I said before, for one full year and 10 meals at akershus, five of which were lunch and dinner, I've never been charged for her meal. Period.

It is luck because it's an unofficial policy and just like back when fast passes could be used the rest of the day, there were still cms that would turn you away. Just because it was only an occasional thing doesn't mean it didn't happen. And I think it smart to hope for the best, but prepare for the worst rather than just not budgeting for it and then it be an unplanned expense. And anyone can ask for the child's platter at a family style restaurant. The 15.99 is the child's price(which you have to pay now that she's 3), not the price for the actual platter.

The difference here is that akershus and garden grill are fixed price meals as opposed to a la carte. So they allow the under three to have the kids meal food without an extra charge.

We did get a free kids meal at Akershus, but not at CRT. I think it depends on your server. I think servers try to do it, but it isn't policy so it doesn't always happen.

We also received a free kid's meal at Garden Grill for my 17 month old last year. :thumbsup2
