I borrowed points from my Sept 21’ use year. I am planning on shortening my trip, will my points just be returned to 21?

No borrowing points is a final transaction. You will have to use them by the end of your 2020 use year. You cannot bank borrowed points.

is this current as of today? I know as of yesterday they were returning borrowed points to their original use years.

@Liam518 unable to DM you but borrowed points were being returned as of yesterday, call MS to verify and then request

I didnt realize that there was an exception to the rule for the pandemic. @Liam518..Hope that you can get through to MS to clarify!

They have been making exceptions right now so give a call!

If the reservation uses current and borrowed points, the system has to use the borrowed points first. What that means is, if you were to shorten the stay, the DVC system will still use the borrowed points up first before using the current UY’s points when applying points to the shortened stay. The only way around this would be to cancel the reservation, wait for the borrowed points to be put back into their original UY, and then booking the stay again. MS might be able to do this if you call.

I agree with others above. After much thought and lots of ups and downs, we completely canceled last Friday. The MS CM was fantastic! Our points were unborrowed within the call (lengthy time but patience paid off). I would think this could end anytime but, I hope there might be a warning. However, with the way things have been communicated lately, I would not be surprised if it wasn't announced before discontinuing.

I posted this in another thread, but as of Monday 6/22/20, the CM I reached was puzzled when I tried to confirm that borrowed points would be unborrowed back to 2021. She said, quote, "I don't see why since this reservation isn't affected by the COVID situation..." but without any fight at all, she said "I'll go ahead and fill out this form and put it through" (paraphrased).

It made it seem like she was granting me an exception when I specifically asked if it was a one-time exception or current blanket policy.

Another person replied to me and said their CM was up front about returning borrowed points.

It's best to call because this can be rescinded any time (I'm sure they are looking at # of points sitting in each UY daily), but goodluck calling (as evidenced by the "are you able to reach MS?" threads)

If you make the change soon then you might be able to take advantage of the leniency they have been offering where they can put back borrowed points. I had this happen for a July trip that i cancelled. I would either call or do a chat with MS. A chat would be better because at the end you can email the transcripts to yourself so you have something in writing.

OP hasn't logged in since yesterday so hopefully they didn't give up on unborrowing and will log-in today :teleport:

Good to know. I've got a reservation I need to cancel with borrowed points. Will give MS a call tomorrow and hope for the best.

Shame... the OP never logged back in to read the corrected answers :(

Closing the loop here, the points that I called to unborrow on Monday, June 22 were manually adjusted on Saturday, June 27.
