I was thinking of taking umbrellas on our upcoming trip. Any suggestions? Looks like it is going to rain while we are there.

it rains almost every day at wdw. you'll actually find it much easier to navigate the park and you'll probably stay drier with a poncho instead of an umbrella.

Not only drier, but less likely to poke someone in the eye with a poncho than an umbrella. :rotfl:

They actually sell umbrellas as well as ponchos. After several poncho's in the collection I decided to buy an umbrella - all black with Mickey - very cute! It fits great in my suitcase. Folds up to be about 10 inches!

We went last year in August for 2 weeks and it rained every day. We started out using the ponchos but after a few days I was so sick of being in them and we'd end up getting wet anyway. We finally bought a few Mickey umbrellas, it was so much nicer that way. We stayed dry and it was MUCH more comfortable then walking around in the ponchos.

I have a quick tip for you. If you plan on carrying an umbrella in a backpack, put it in a large ziplock bag. After you use it, you can slip it back into the bag without getting the pack wet. Just remember to let it dry at night.

I usually pack a "totes" size umbrella in fanny pack and it works a lot better for me than a sweaty poncho... and nobody's lost an eye yet.

If it's really crowded umbrellas get in everyone's way. Trying to maneuver around with one through others can be frustrating for both. Also, kids with umbrellas are more likely to run right into someone since they tend not to look up, but down at their feet when they walk, and an umbrella just obstructs their view more. I've been hit by both adults and children with umbrellas who treat them like an extension of their bodies and swing them around without paying any attention. The parks can be very crowded during the times of year that it tends to rain part of every day in the summer and I would think an umbrealla would just get in the way.

Crowds generally aren't an issue when it's raining at WDW. I've used my in the rain in June at WDW before and the streets and walks aren't wall-to-wall people since many people take refuge in shops, restaurants, etc. during the rains. There's plenty of room to move around with an umbrella.

We never both messing with umbrellas but just throw on a poncho with the hood over it- its easier to navigate, and smaller to pack - plus those umbrellas can be weapons when squeezing through crowds, dragging them through stores, etc.

It rains almost everyday - come prepared with ponchos and umbrellas and you'll soon decide which is easiest for your family to mess wtih =)

(btw-dollar tree sells 2 pack ponchos for $1, that's cheap enough to throw away at the end of the day. They do sell the mickey ones in the parks, but be warned that you will be lost in a sea of them - its easier to hang onto your family/children if you wear a diff color or style)

Aside from the fact that walking near some groups with umbrellas can be scary, I like the coverage provided by ponchos. The ponchos can do a better job of protecting your clothes from getting wet than umbrellas can if there is any kind of a breeze blowing the rain. Also, we've been in situations where 1/2 our party goes on a ride while the other 1/2 waits outside (one child afraid of ride); the ponchos protect your behind if you need to sit on a bench that is still wet.
