Umbrella Stroller for 4 yr old..is there such thing?

I second the recommendation of a Maclaren Volo! My son was 4 1/2 on our trip over Christmas. I'd say he was about 43/44" tall and weighed about 47 lbs. He fit VERY confortably in the volo. He LOVES that stroller. DH and I love it too. It's so nice and lightweight. It was the *perfect* WDW stroller for us. I loved that it had the carry strap on it for when it was folded. The mesh seat dries out fast if it gets wet and it cradled him nicely. The seat back is high enough that he took a nap in it one afternoon and between the seat back being high enough to support his head and the "cradling" of the mesh seat he was comfortable and didn't have that head-flop thing going on. We usually take a double stroller with our boys but being there Christmas week when it was so crowded we decided to do 2 strollers. We had the Volo for our 4 1/2 year old and a Peg Perego Pliko for our almost 3 year old. DH and I would race out of attractions to be the one to get to push the Volo b/c it was SO much easier. He's even gone as far as to say that we are buying a 2nd volo before the next trip. I like the basket on the Volo better too.

The 2005 model with the sunshade on ebay is a great deal!

I have to agree with the posters about the Volo. Ordered mine about a month ago and have tested it out at malls with my 6 1/2 yr. old DD. She will be 7 when we go to Disney this fall. She weighs about 42 pounds and it pushes wonderfully. Ordered mine from babydealz.com ('04 model) and paid $68 including s&h. Mine does not have the canopy, but as we are going in Nov. I didnt feel we would need it. If she were up walking (as she will do some) she wouldnt be covered anyway. We will just have hats and sunglasses. Only the '04 models and newer are tested at the 55pound weight limit- I called and spoke to MacLaren directly because I knew I wanted an older model at a better price, but still able to hold the higher weight. The mesh seat IS great also. We spilled some soda on it at the mall last weekend and I wiped it up and it felt dry. DD just got back in- no problems.

We bought a Jeep one for our daughter. She will be 4 on 5/5/01 (celebration day).

She is around 30 lbs & is more tall then short. It fits her perfectly. I think it was around $30 at BRU. There was another one (I think it was a Kolcraft one) that didn't have as much head room as this one. It was about $20 & the girl that works at BRU said she wouldn't get it.

Then there was the cheap one or the ones they give for free. We had one & just recently threw it away since it didn't hold out well & it was hard for my dh to push since he is a bit taller then me.

We always brought our own Graco umbrella strollers for our twins when they were younger because they would often fall asleep and we could continue to walk around and get them out to the car without having to wake them.

The last time we were able to do that was when they were 5 yrs old, they were just too heavy for them and they didn't push easily (even though they were of average weight for their age). Perhaps the better made strollers would work better even for older children.

On our last trip, at age 7, we only needed to rent a stroller at Epcot.

If everyone is talking about taking the strollers to Disney, is there any reason why you wouldn't just rent one in the parks? We brought a Graco Lite -rider stroller for a 1yr grandson this time to WDW and rented the plastic ones for my 3 yr old grandson. It worked fine. We keep 2 umbrella strollers in the car for malls etc. I know that on other threads there was all kind of talk about unsanitary strollers but we used them and no one got sick. IMO...

I do not think that it is so much a cleaniness thing, it is that they are bulky, not easy to get through shops, restrurants, etc. Plus, I just prefer to have my own..I know it is clean without a doubt and it would not be so bulky. And I would have to have one while at DTD, or anywhere else we go that does not rent them.

talked DH into the 2005 Maclaren Volo in peony (PINK) have to admit, I have a hard time sinking $100 into a stroller for a 5 1/2 DD, but I figured if I ordered it now we can use it for a trip to the ZOO on May 5. Hope it gets here in time. We will call it a WDW test drive!!

I was thisclose to talking myself into purchasing the mclaren. Then, my own fairy was watching over me and low and behold in the grocery store, a mom has her son in one. Now, my DD6 is 45" tall and after seeing a child in one, there is NO WAY my DD would have fit. Her head would have been hanging off the back. The BEST thing we did was simply RENT the double stroller at MK & AK. Not only did I have toworry about dropping $100 for a stroller she will NEVER use again, there was plenty of room for DD and both sons to rest on the foot rest and even I sat in it w/ DD during parent swap and parades. There was also room to toss the backpask with now worries of it flipping over and compartment sacks for our drinks! If cleanliness IS an issue, then take some Lysol wipes with you. They can't be ANY filthier than the shopping carts at Wal-mart or Publix that NEVER get washed either. Just my 2 cents. HTH
