I am in charge of Thanksgiving dinner this year... again. I don't mind, but what do you have for dessert?
I'm blonde, but I'm not that dumb, so before you post pumpkin pie, I know that! But what else?

Anyone serve something unusual? Someone told me they always have pumpkin cheesecake and that sounded good to me. Never had it but I like pumpkin and I like cheesecake so might be worth a shot. Any other ideas?

My sister works in the bake shop of a dinner, so in the past she has brought apple tart, pecan, chocolate cream, banana cream, lemon meringue.

Hubby doesn't like pumpkin anything, so I always get a couple of chocolate cream pies as well. Way back when, I bought only one - had to start buying 2, since lots of folks liked the chocolate! I had a great light pumpkin cheesecake recipe - I need to find it before Thanksgiving.

No pumpkin here, but we do have sweet potato pie, coconut pie and homemade ice cream :)

Triffles are easy and fun -I have a good recipie for one that is brownie and reeses cups layered with whipped cream.(very light ;) ) Let me know and I will get the recipie if you are interested.
My MIL makes chess pies- a favorite of my husband

My sister in law brings fancy sugar cookies decorated with icing and colored sugar. They are shaped like leafs and turkeys. Yum!

Also, she brought cranberry bread.

Pumpkin cheesecake would be nice.

Oh and my aunt makes a cherry/cranberry cream cheese pie.

cheesecake sounds awfully heavy after a thanksgiving dinner. we usually have pumpkin pie and apple pie, and then something else that varies. blueberry pie, pecan pie, tollhouse cookie pie (very heavy, not a big hit but dh loves it so he makes it sometimes anyway).

We always have mince meat (is that how you spell it?). I'm not a fan...Plus dad's homemade pumpkin pies. Last year I convinced them to get a frozen key lime-everyone loved having it!! I think it will be a new tradition!

(As an aside, my grandfather managed to drop his original piece of key lime last year. I can't even describe how that stuff goes EVERYWHERE. It was so funny)

The pumpkin cheesecake sounds good.. I think Im gonna try to find that recipe for this year.. :goodvibes

We normally do the pumpkin pie, cherry pie, cheesecake, jello cake and sometimes cookies..

Usually the required pumpkin pie, plus apple crumb pie, chocolate cream pie and chocolate chip cookies for the kids.

I'm not a big fan of pumpkin pie (DH and DS are though), so I usually also have Pecan Pie and/or Coconut Custard Pie also. Last year I got this great recipe for a cream cheese filled pumpkin roll that was delicious though.

Last year I made Paula Deen's Pumpkin Gooey Butter Cakes
Yum!
Pumpkin Gooey Butter Cakes Recipe courtesy Paula Deen

Recipe Summary
Difficulty: Easy
Prep Time: 30 minutes
Cook Time: 50 minutes
Yield: 6 to 8 servings

Cake:
1 (18 1/4-ounce) package yellow cake mix
1 egg
8 tablespoons butter, melted
Filling:
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 (15-ounce) can pumpkin
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
8 tablespoons butter, melted
1 (16-ounce) box powdered sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Combine the cake mix, egg, and butter and mix well with an electric mixer. Pat the mixture into the bottom of a lightly greased 13 by 9-inch baking pan.

To make the filling: In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese and pumpkin until smooth. Add the eggs, vanilla, and butter, and beat together. Next, add the powdered sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and mix well. Spread pumpkin mixture over cake batter and bake for 40 to 50 minutes. Make sure not to overbake as the center should be a little gooey.

Serve with fresh whipped cream.

Pies in general. We always have pumpkin and if I don't make my Chocolate bourbon Pecan Pie, I will be left outta the will. Sometimes we add Apple Pie (it's usually...gasp...storebought). My mom always had Mincemeat Pie when I was growing up and I thought (and still do) it was awful! So I have what I like! And LOTS of Cool Whip!

Oooh! That's what I was gonna say. That's my favorite!! I also take these wonderful pumpkin whoopee pies that I buy in Lancaster. Yum, but I think they count as 1,000,000 weight watchers points.

DH reminded me we saw a pumpkin cheesecake at Sam's Club the last time we were there. Those ladies who are there passing out the free food samples (love those sample ladies!) one of them said that she buys it every year and serves it. It's made by the Cheesecake Factory so it should be good.

I'm going to try that and get the recipe for clarabelles truffles. Now my stomach is growling! ;)

I usually do pumpkin pie and apple pie, but since last Thanksgiving I've developed an allergy to cinnamon, so both of those are out for me. I'll make a pumpkin pie for DH and DS, and I'll probably make something chocolate for me.

OMG! I love those! My mom used to make those all the time when I was younger. She worked at a hospital and brought one in every year for the potluck. She hasn't made one in ages though. Maybe I can talk her into it for this year..... :)

Don't you all love this time of year? I love the smell of pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla. I should go buy a scented candle so it smells like that all the time in here! :goodvibes
