Hi

We will be flying into Las Vegas at the beginning of April, plan to stay a few nights there and visit DL for 8 days then back to Vegas to fly home to Britain.

I need your advice on getting from Vegas to DL. Do I catch a flight from Vegas to John Wayne or is the drive ok for a UK visitor not used to the roads?

I know it's a pretty straight run but will I need to get right into LA before I can reach Anaheim? Will I be able to cope with all the traffic in LA? Will it be dangerous for us? We are a family of two adults and two kids.

Will we need a car once we arrive in DL. We are hoping to see Universal Studios and Hollywood. Can we just get a taxi to these places, will they be very expensive?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I recommend having a car in Southern Cal! It's pretty difficult getting around without one. You may not need a car if you just plan your stay at DLR, but if you want to visit other places (i.e., Hollywood & Universal Studios), you'll need a car.

The drive from Las Vegas to Anaheim is approximately 4 hours (no traffic to light traffic) and the drive to/from Las Vegas is pretty straight forward. The drive on CA-91 eastbound in the morning (to Anaheim) and westbound (to Las Vegas) in the evenings can be congested (I-15 can also be a little frustrating in the evenings). If you can plan not to drive during rush hour traffic, it's not too bad. You can get directions on mapquest.com.

Alternatively, you may want to check out the flight costs on Southwest.com. There is a system-wide sale currently (ends this week? - sorry, can't remember) and RT from Las Vegas to Orange County is only $58+tax & fees per person. You may want to consider flying from Las Vegas and renting a car here.

I, personally, prefer to fly, but have had overseas friends drive to/from Las Vegas without issue. Good luck and have a great trip!

Definately get a car. It would be very expensive to take a taxi to/from the places you mentioned. Especially if you're sitting in rush hour traffic.

If you do decide to drive from Vegas to DL you won't actually have to go into L.A which is good. Besides the 91 you can also take the 57 or the 5 into Anaheim and those tend to be busy freeways also so flying may be the best way for you to go.

Have a great time here!:sunny:
