Hi Guys. I posted yesterday regarding my daughter being poorly on holiday from uk. We are currently in a centra care centre in Kissimmee and its a little daunting as we have never done anything like this before. We have insurance paperwork which we are going to hand in ( my husband is having to go back to the hotel to get it). What normally happens in these places as it is completely different from the UK. We have been told its going to be $325 before any tests/scripts. Does this sound right? I'm rather frightened to be honest but holding up for my daughter sake. Thank you.

Sounds about right. Medical care is super expensive, before insurance. I recently got an ambulance bill, 3 miles door to door, thousands of dollars! Fortunately, insurance will cover most.

Dd15 just visited an ER in Glasgow, and it was free!

Unfortunately, yes - that sounds believable. I have no idea how your insurance will end up covering stuff in the UK, but the urgent care center will want to be paid now and then it's up to you to get reimbursed from your insurance.

We unfortunately had to visit one, probably even the same place, many years ago when my Mum was taken ill whilst we were on holiday. When we arrived, the first person we had to speak to was an accountant & not a Doctor. They wanted to know how we would pay, once they had our insurance information they were all smiles. Our insurance covered everything if I recall, they paid the medical centre directly. I don't think we had to hand over any money, but I was a lot younger so I may not have the facts fully.

It's very different than what we are used to but as soon as all your insurance details check out, you'll get great care & attention.

Sadly yes. Without insurance, US healthcare is almost prohibitively expensive. I hope you get it sorted out and most importantly, hope your DD is feeling better soon!

Thank you all for your reply's. Daughter has a perforated ear drum and infection. We have been given antibiotics to take so hopefully she will be on the mend soon! Insurance was paid directly thank goodness. Many thanks again for your reply's. Its a very daunting process in a different country!!!

Glad it all worked out. If you told them before you had insurance they probably told you the with insurance price. You can always ask what the direct pay price is. Often it is much much less than what you would pay with your insurance. I had the flu and with out insurance it would have cost 125 at an urgent care but with insurance they charged my insurance company 500! I had to pay the whole 500 because I hadn't met my deductible. I about cried and didn't know what insurance was for. Welcome to our broken medical system.

Poor little peanut! No wonder she didn't want to eat. Hope the antibiotics kick in soon.

Glad to hear your daughter is doing better. If you are flying any time soon, I suggest you do some checking to see how that could impact her...Ear issues and flying are usually not a good combination.
