No offense but I don't have a clue what you are talking about. Maybe you should consider revising your post.

I agree that it is ludicrous the price differences between term-time and school holidays but I think some of that is due to the fact that, in most places, it is summer anyway so you get better weather, more demand etc.

Not quite sure what you are expecting people here to tell you, though.

As I understand it you get a certain amount of days each year for 'unauthorised absence' and it is only if you exceed those days, you get fined. I certainly intend to take my kids out of school if we go next year, purely so we can go in September because that's what we prefer to do.

I am not saying it is fair but, as long as the demand is there and people are paying the prices, the tour operators will get away with charging the prices they do. I definitely don't think it's anyone's fault on here though :)

No matter where you travel in the US there are different prices based off of the time of year. It isn't just Orlando, or a specific travel agent.

it could be 10c and raining all summer in a caravan site anywere in the uk but u still pay over the top in school holls " rain or shine. so the summer is a non starter in this thread .

I agree that it is bad but as people will pay it supply and demand means that it will continue. Also like another poster stated this happens everywhere not just Florida. (If any non UK folks don't understand this the OP is talking about the fact that people here can get fined £100 if they take their child out of school for a vacation, although I am a teacher and I have never actually known this happen.)

I understand your post now that I figured out what holl means (I think). Anyway it is simple economics. Over the summer the demand goes up, when demand goes up the prices follow. It works this way with anything it is just not as noticeable. If you have a product no body wants you will charge less than if you have one people really want. As the demand for a product goes up it is only reasonable to see how people would feel they could increase their prices. Additionally rather than looking at it as higher prices in the summer. You could say those are the normal prices and the prices are lower during the slower times to increase demand and bring in guest (the same concept behind a sale or a coupon.)

We have the same issues with school holidays here in the US. We don't get fined for taking the kids out of school, but it is looked down on, and can be hard for the kids to miss the info.

What can you do? It's a tough decision. We're taking our kids out of school for 4 days and accepting the consequences. For us it's more about having nicer weather and smaller crowds, not so much about money.

:rose: Look to the flower.... ;)

Its all about supply and demand..
yes, its outrageous.. but - hey thats life!

We live close to Silverstone and our local hotel charges about £150 a night usually. Silverstone Grand prix weekend, they only take bookings of 3 nights or more and charge £700 a night... - thats just the way that the cookie crumbles... they are already booked up for the next 6 years or something crazy!!

If you dont like it, you dont have to go.

personally, I dont believe with taking kids out of school particularly not for 2 weeks for a vacation. I dont think its fair on the schools (unless the kids are badly behaved!!! ;) ) and I dont think its fair on the kids - they miss out on stuff at school and more importantly, you teach your kids that its ok to break the rules to suit yourself.

I know that lots of people will disagree with me, sorry, (just putting on my flame proof suit and peeping out!)
I just would not take my child out of school for a vacation - they get so much vacation time, there really isnt an excuse for me personally.

As I said, going on an expensive vacation is not a necessity.. dont go if you dont like the prices. We work out the prices of all sorts of things, and decide whether its worth if for us ...

we'd like a better car or a bigger house, but we cant afford it - but i dont complain that houses are too expensive in the village that I want to live in.. thats just life I am afraid..
