I am looking for an UK Insurance company who are willing to offer cover for loss of DVC points. I am aware of Travel Guard in the US but cannot find a company here in the UK. The companies here I have contacted do not attach a financial value to DVC points so will not offer cover. This is worth bearing in mind when taking out travel insurance here in the UK. So if anybody out there has any information on the subject I would appreciate a reply.

We haven't found any company who will offer cover as no money is involved. Our normal travel insurance covers all other aspects of the trip and we just feel if we can't go, well, so be it - we won't have lost any money.

You will have lost money. Think about it.

Not really as far as I'm concerned. We often don't use our points but hand them over to family so if we had to cancel, and I hope we don't have to, it would be the same as letting someone else have the use of our points. We'd just take a different holiday when convenient and pay for it if necessary.

We feel, as we have bought the points, even though we have the annual dues, we are getting "free" accommodation from now on - a bonus holiday each time we use them.

Surely that depends on what will happen to the points if you have to cancel the trip.

* You can cancel the reservation, return the points to their UY and use them for another trip,
* If you're within your banking deadlines you can bank them for future use
* Like gill, you may be happy for someone else to use the points
* You can rent the points out
* If you're outside of your banking deadlines you've still got the holding account if you can arrange another trip at short notice.

Yes, there may be times when cash would be the best compensation for 'losing' your points, but there are alternatives.

As far as I understand. Any points put into the 'Holding Account' have to be used that use year. Am I wrong? If my understanding is right and you cannot use the points for whatever reason that use year you will have lost them. Also what puzzles me is why do Travel Guard offer cover? They give them a value.
