UK Friends! UK trip by rail...a few ?'s

Hi,

If it was me planning your trip I would fly into Scotland if possible and then work my way down.

Warwick Castle is somewhere I would definately recommend for a great day out - it's close to Birmingham and Stratford upon Avon.

Lincolnshire is very nice too - it's in the Midlands and you could visit Lincoln Cathedral and see the original Magna Carta and also the original town of Boston.

I was thinking of flying onto Edinburgh and working my way down. Lincolnshire sounds like a great idea.

So far, we plan to stay in:
Edinburgh
York
Canterbury
Bath
Cardiff
...not sure about the rest.

I'd like to visit a coastal city.
We love historic sites.
We might go to Paris for a night or two as well. I'm love to travel through the Chunnel.

Thanks again for your help.

If you travel by train with luggage, I have a word of advice if you train has been delayed at all, "Be ready to get off at your stop!" If they are trying to make up lost time, they don't give you long to get luggage out of the rack and off the train. When we traveled in 2002 from Scotland to London by train, DH and friend got left on the train at our stop as they had to unstack some luggage to get to theirs, the train doors closed and locked and the train pulled off with them still standing on the train.

Friend who was picking us up looked at our other friend and myself and said "well were is __________ & ___________?" So I say, "they are still on the train and it's leaving." :rotfl: :rotfl:

We had to go to the next stop and pick them up.

I say, drop Cardiff and come to Swansea - that way you get Wales and a coastal city in one! (and Mumbles is quite pretty)!
