hey

i always look on the main budget board on the dis but think its very very american so i was thinking we should start our very own thread where we can talk and share our money saving ideas/ money making ideas to get our next fix of disney

I've often thought this myself, many times. Shocked that there hasn't been much support already.

Yeah I'm very shocked to be honset guess everyone has more money now a days lol

I just do simple things like any left over money I have from a night out I put in a tiny as well as all my overtime money

This is an excellent idea. As well as tips on saving money to get there, we could share tips on saving money while we are there also.

Our next trip, in September, is costing us quite a lot to stay at the AKL. However with the free dining plan we will be saving money, when compared to our last trip in 2009 when we stayed at POR, on food alone.

We all know that a quality sun cream is vital for any trip to Orlando but quality comes at a price. 2 top brands that we like to use are ROC and Banana Boat, these can retail for over £10 per bottle.

However bargains are out there. I dont know if these stores are all over the UK but Home Bargains and B&M Bargains often stock these products for around £5.
Their stock levels are always changing so keep checking back.

I always go for Hawaiian Tropic myself, but sure enough B&M and Home Bargains seem to stock those too...we even saw some CVS branded stock in Home Bargains a couple of weeks ago!!!

So budgeting then....DH and I have just come back from 5 nights camping (we do the camping because we enjoy it, not because it's cheap!) but it truly was a bargain holiday. 5 nights for the price of 4 because we went Sunday to Friday (£70 with EHU), then I had saved up £14 in Tesco vouchers which we used for BBQ shopping one night, £12.50 in Nectar points which we used for BBQ shopping another night, £5 Morrisons voucher for some other food, and I had 5 free subs on my SubCard which did us for lunch on a couple of days. We spent £120 on petrol for the whole trip (did over 700 miles in total) and only spent £60 cash the whole week!!!. We even saved £8 by doing the Anfield Stadium Tour at 9:30 in the morning instead of later.
Quite proud of myself for this, 5 nights away and all spending money included for just £250. The weather was great too, so who needs a foreign trip!!!!

We went to Elm Cottage near Chester if anyone is interested, can highly recommend it. Had one day in Chester, one day on North Wales Coast, one day in Liverpool and one day at Llangollen.

We save £2 coins.
Sell stuff on Ebay.
Merlin passes and week in a caravan courtesy of Tesco clubcard.
Premier Inn deals for £29 per night.
Shop online for books (Amazon etc)
Take picnics on every day out!
Keep and pass on my DDs' clothes - they are 11, 7 and 3.
Use Quidco for AA membership, car insurance etc.
Buy clothes from supermarkets like Asda, Sainsbury's (I have abandoned Next lol)

At WDW, we have booked OKW with the free DDP, so I'm hoping that we will spend very little when we are out there.:)

Why don't you rename this thread as the official UK budget thread? It's a great idea. I don't think the UK forums generate enough traffic volume to sustain a dedicated section for that purpose but this would be something really nice to have. Perhaps on the Community Board?

Well done everyone who has posted so far - it appears that we have a Budget Thread! Hopefully this will turn into a fully-fledged "board".:thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 Thank you for taking the initiative to start it. Long live the savings :cool1:

Brilliant idea :thumbsup2

Also don't rule out looking at packages, even if you only want the flights-this can work out way cheaper in some cases than the flights on their own!

I certainly agree with the packages comment. We always used to book everything seperately on the internet or whatever, but the last 2 trips, the packages with TCD (Once when they were XL, and once since Virgin took over) have been more than 1K cheaper - we book flights, hotel (POP), car (premium package), tickets and dining. Hardly worth looking at the seperate bits any more.

Sadly, gone are the days of 2 of us flying BMI Manchester - Washington - Orlando for £662 (yes, that was for both of us!!!)

im so proud hopefully my idea will now catch on, how do i change the name like someone suggested

the ways i have saved money out there in the past is by using free dinning which i think sort of counts lol

but going to walmart to buy things like water bottles and cereal bars, oh also when we go shopping in the malls we found we didnt need food if we went round and tired the free samples

If you edit your first post then click advanced edit you can change the thread name :thumbsup2

I have just put together a proper household budget - this means we will be more focused on what we are spending and we want to maximise our savings - not just for WDW but in general. DH & I have agreed no spending on anything we don't NEED. Both of us are great for 'that looks good lets get it' and wasting money so now if we don't need it we are not buying it :rolleyes1

We used to have those savings tins that you opened with a can opener..and found we didn't save much as we were always opening it!

So, we spent £20 and bought a lovely terramundi pot. Its still going strong after 2 months! We've saved any odd £ notes that are given to us by my mom or dad (repayments lol) and then anything from 50p to £2 coins. I've lost track a little but we've got over £100 already...we'd have otherwise just spent it on useless rubbish!!! :thumbsup2

You could ask a mod to make it into a sticky so its here and updated all the time

Well done think this is a great idea if people know of a bargin or how to save money.
