I was just trying to go through the settings on my camera and I went to the Tv and Av mode and I was trying to figure it out and changed the settings. I have NO CLUE what I did or how to get it back to normal. I am reading my book to even figure out what these settings are but it isn't telling me much. anyone wanna help the clueless

oh its a cannon powershot sx10 is if that makes a difference

Don't worry, you haven't hurt anything. Just turn the knob back to Auto or whatever you had it on before. But you might sometime want to try out those settings, especially the AV mode.

I did try it out... I am not too sure what it means. I just did trial and error on all my settings just to see what did what... manual is not my friend right now. but the others i could somewhat figure out.

Set the dial back to P or Auto.

If you are in AV, you are in aperture mode and the camera selects the shutter speed based on your selection (generally a faster shutter for a lower AV setting).

If you are in TV, you are in shutter mode and the camera selects your aperture setting based on your selection.

"Normal" in either of these two settings will depend on your photo you want to take.

Look at your "problem" as a learning tool. If you are in AV, set your photo to take a picture of the same object and increase or decrease the aperture and see how the camera automatically selects the shutter speed.

If you are in TV, do the same thing and see how the camera selects the aperture based on your shutter speed settings.

Download your pictures and see how the differences look. In one mode, your picture will look sharper (more in focus) with various degrees as you change the aperture. In the other mode, the picture will probably get lighter or darker based on the exposure.

If you have read the manual and still cannot figure it out, then you probably need to learn a little more about the detailed aspects of photography, especially the exposure. There are many good sources of information, but the most recommended book around here is "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson. I have read it and it is very well written.
