or should I say what SHE is.

UH OH We have one boy kitty now and one girl kitty. Boy has not been fixed ( He's only 5 months old and hes never been outside so we were waiting till hes a bit older)

Girl is only 8 weeks old.

Anyone know how soon I should be worried about this?

Boy Kitty ( Kai) is NOT happy to say the least. He has been fighting with her and is very aggressive. Ive been keeping them apart as much as possible and that helps but

Guess Ill be going to the Vet ASAP!

Anyone know how much this usually costs?

when i first brought my kitty home (1993) the tag on the collar said it was a boy...the vet (this is scary) said it was a boy...s owe assumed it was a boy!

well, a few months later...we discovered that he was actually a SHE!!! we thought nothing of it when we were told she was a boy...we figured they all knew what they were talking about...

now the poor thing will forever have the nickname "girlie-man" :teeth:

edited to add...i'm not sure how much or when you should be concerned with it...sorry...

It is cheaper to get the boy fixed, since it is less invasive. You would be surprised how young they can get in a family way. I would take the boy in SOON to have him fixed.

good idea!
lol

I think its really hard to tell when theyre so little.

I think Ill be calling the Vet. :)

LOL somehow I knew you were going to say that!!!!!

Getting him neutered should help with the agressiveness too.

JMHO, get them both fixed. It's better all around for both of them. :)

Binny,
Sounds like you've got your hands full. Since you asked about the cost of spaying/neutering, I thought I'd mention Friends of Animals. It's a non-profit organization that helps subsidize the costs of spaying/neutering because it reduces overpopuation of unwanted animals. You buy a certificate from them at a greatly reduced cost and take it to any of the vets in their large network who've agreed to accept the certificates (again, because they support the work of this organization.) I've used this several times and have never had a problem. Here's a link to their info -

Sounds like my story. We got two kitties last summer. They told us one was female and the other one male. Well the one who they said was a male loves to by rubbed on the belly. My dh and I got to looking and swore we did not see any boy parts so we figured they made a mistake and we went on with our lives. THEN...........A few days before we went to WDW back in April the other kitty was meowing a different meow than she usually does. I found her and there she was with 6 kittens!!!!!! Now the funny part was that we had convinced ourselves that we had two females and they do not go outside. So I sat ther looking at these kittens with my mouth hanging open!!! My dh was working night shift so I called him and when I asked him to guess what I just found in the badroom he thought I was talking about a snake or a squirrel!!! When I broke the news he was How the H*** did THAT happen?????????????????????

OMG, I'm glad I'm not alone! LOL

Always had female cats. SIL got us a pet-store cat specifying "male". We never could come up with a good name, so he became our "Son".

Fast-forward a coupla months. "Son" had 5 kittens. Name changed to "Sun".

I'd check with a vet and get one spayed ASAP.

LOL Im so glad to know I am NOT alone! :)

I called the humane society and theyre going to get him on Saturday for $25.

I called my vet and they wanted $100!

So thanks for the tips everyone I appreciate it :)

man I was hoping for a kitten too! Just have to go ahead with my kidnapping plan for Simba!;) :p

I worked in a veterinary clinic for several years and believe it or not I remember more than one occasion when someone brought a cat in to be spayed/neuterd - it was prepped for surgery (sedated, shaved, etc.) before anyone noticed that is wasn't a she/he! Didn't happen often, but sometimes when everyone is in a hurry and the owner tells you it's a she/he...no one bothers to double check
I also saw several spayings where the doctor opened the cat up. only to find there was nothing to remove. This most often happened with cats from the pound - people adopt them and unless there is a visible scar when the cat is shaved there is no way of knowing if the animal has previously been done or not.

Now if you want to talk envasive... I've seen and assisted in both spays and neuters and as far as cats go...I'd pick the spays any day. I won't go into the details - but I will say that clippers are far too cumbersome to be used on a male cat being prepped for a neutered.......

Years ago, we had a black cat named Rugrat. Everyone thought Rugrat was a she until I took her to be spayed. Turned out Rugrat was a 2 year old male with undescended testes. We had him all his life and thought he was a she. Luckily, the vet found out before surgery. He acted just like a neutered male without the surgery.
