Good morning DIS friends. I need some down home advice. I have had a sinus infection for 2 weeks now. Went to the Dr. last Friday and have been on antibiotics for 6 days. He also gave me prednisone to help reduce the swelling in my nose so I could breathe again. Well, the prednisone worked - after a couple of days I could breathe out of one side of my nose. I was ecstatic!

I haven't had any prednisone now for 2 days. (The packet was finished.) My nose is still stuffy! I know the infection is clearing up because my eye and cheek no longer hurt, but I can't stand another day of this! It is so tiring to not be able to breathe right. And forget about sleep -- I find it very hard to be a mouth breather.

Any advice? Anything work for you? I am afraid to try the sudafed again because I was on that stuff before going to the Dr. and it wasn't working. I am getting desperate.

Thanks for any magic you have. :wizard:

I'm coming off of a stuffy/runny nose/head now too. Have you tried the Breathe Right strips?

I tried Dayquil and AlkaSeltzer before giving the old Benadryl a shot...guess what worked? The Benadryl.

It is probably not still an infection. So I would try the benedryl too. Stuffy nose is very common right now. As are spring allergies. Do you have allergies?
I take benedryl every night to help with my stuffy nose.

You might try a menthol inhaler like Vicks makes. Also, take an OTC with a Decongestant.

I hope you're feeling better soon!

Thanks. I feel so miserable. I was afraid of the rebound effects the OTC drugs warn about, but I am too desperate to care today! Anyone try Claritin? I do have allergies.

If you're going to do Claritin, make sure it's Claritin D so you get decongested as well. That's worked pretty well on me in the past.

I'm sorry you are sick. Thank goodness this has been a warm winter here because I am usually sick from Thanksgiving until Easter. I don't know about others but during that time I live on Advil Cold and Sinus. I also live on Claritin during allergy season. This year I got a prescription for allergy medicine so we will see how that goes. Take it easy and get better soon!

For what I have right now, Sudafed is working, but when I was as bad as you in Dec/Jan NOTHING could unstuff me. Sorry. It's really horrible, I know!
