So, my DH cousin's wife called me yesterday to let me know in advance that Thanksgiving dinner (which is usually a grand family affair) is going to be cancelled because most of his family will be traveling. So, I said to her " Well, that's fine because we won't be here anyway". So she said " OMG, are you guys going to Orlando (Disney) again???" I said "Yes, we would be there everyweek if we could" so she said " OMG, you guys are ridiculous". This coming from a mom who doesn't take her kids anywhere!! Does anyone else ever get this kind of response? I'm starting to wonder if we should let anyone know when we go anymore.:confused3

I ignored all the comments and moved to Florida:cool1:
NOW guess who all the little cousins want to visit? :cool2

Don't let them get you down. Be the parent YOU want to be. :grouphug:

Oh we get comments about how much we plan for and love Disney World. We just laugh and say say "yea.. we're nuts.. but we love it"!!! We jsut laugh it off.

I have a cousin who works for WDW and goes on a D cruise at least twice a year. Now to be honest... I feel like saying "really??? again??? aren't you sick of it?" But I know that they love it even if i don't.

There are so many things we do that others think are ridiculous or frivolous I can't keep track. I don't even respond anymore, when they ask why or how or whatever I just answer "because we can and we want to" and secretly pity them their mundane and boring (to me) existences.

Now, after many years of childlessness due to infertility, we have a wonderful, fun-loving son to include in our adventures and I pity not only them, but their poor kids who never get to go anywhere, see anything, or do anything.

Be proud of your frequent trips to WDW, it's such an awesome adventure for all of you and your kids will absolutely benefit from all that fun.

"Of course we're going again. Our whole familiy loves it. We know families who never go on vacation at all and that just makes me sooooo sad..."

Yes we have family that is the same way especially the mother-in witch..so she usually only know after we've gone. I usually send her a postcard from the resort just to be mean as her....I say hey you owe no one an explanation if you can afford it and you want to then go have a good time and tell miss jealous to kiss your butt. Tell her it is ridiculous for her to stick her two cents into your buisness. It is your time and your money and none of her concern. She's probably jealous because you have a family that is interested in spending quality time together in a day and age where family has become obsolete. Anyway your not alone we get it to. May you have a very magical trip.....

Thanks you guys always make me feel better! We are a disney loving family and I have no regrets. They have been promising their son Disney since I can remember yet, they have managed to sneak away to Cancun and Vegas without their kids! Our vacation time is spent with our children. There will come a time when the kids wont want to travel with us anymore so we have to take advantage of our time with them!:grouphug:

Either jealousy or an inflated sense of self... they think they're too good, too smart, or just to grown up to want to go to Disney World!

Maybe she's the one most emotionally invested in the family tradition, and you just caught the brunt of her frustration that what she sees as important, everyone else is just blowing off, and evidently without even mentioning it.

Heck, my own parents, who honestly FUND most of our trips to Disney because they have a DVC, think we obsess too much. ( and that's coming from people who like it down there, cause they have a DVC ). Nevermind the folks who just think I'm completely off my rocker.

At least, the fury has kind of passed here at the office. It's gone from "you're going AGAIN?" to "So when are you going again?" :)

I wouldn't let it bother you. I've heard that one more times than I can count. My SIL gives me the most grief-her kids are grown and she never traveled with them when they were younger and at home. In fact, I got the comment just a week or so ago where she said, "won't you be glad when their grown and you don't have to go there anymore?". I laughed and told her HECK NO-I go there for ME too and I will keep going there until they put me in the ground! Meanwhile my SIL goes to Cozumel three times a year....((yawn))...to me that is boring, but I never comment about it since different things excite different people.

There are those who are just plain jealous sometimes too...you just never know. Either way, don't let it get to you...and have a GREAT TIME!!!!:thumbsup2

Used to get it all the time--now they all seem to have gotten over it!

I am so glad you posted this! I know that people think that of us, too. I'm always a little embarassed to say we're going again for that reason! But like someone else said...I think that lots of people are obsessed with much more ridiculous things than a fun vacation with their kiddies!

LOL My mom said the same thing!!
"OMG, You guys are ridiculous!" Were her exact words!

I said, "Excuse me?"

I thought that was really rude.

My MIL told me, " Ya know, If you dont get to go to Disney every year that WOULD be okay."

I said, "Ok for who? Not for us. We love to go every year."

That year we went 2 time!!! LMAO We also went to Marco Island that year too!!

Florida 3 times in one year! Im thinking shes got the picture now!!

We've only been twice, once when my oldest DD was 3 (brought home a little souvenier) in 2001, and then took my now 7 year old and 3 yr old DD's in June 2006. And my DM has the same reaction about our 2nd trip. It's even worse since I told her I hope to save up the $$ to go back next year. Again? "Isn't that expensive" "not as expensive as your cigarettes" SHe didn't say another word.:lmao:

This form a DM who took us to 2 places as a child....Chatanooga, TN to see Rock City and to Panama City Beach, FL. :confused3 We would go to 1 and then alternate the next year. And as beautiful as TN is, I was bored with Rock City by the time I was 10.

I have been getting it for this trip coming up. It's just ridiculous! One of these days I'm going to blow! Feel sorry for whoever that will be:rolleyes1

 Enjoy your trip & your time with your kiddos!!

no - I am sure people think it, but they don't say it. I have had people say, "that's your thing, isn't it?," but say so kindly.

I could have written this post word for word.

Every time we head down to the HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH, my FIL has something to say about it. "You're going AGAIN". The answer is YES! We have a timeshare through DVC, I LOVE Disney, my DD(3) LOVES Disney and my husband has quickly become a convert.

What's is so wrong about being in a place that makes you happy? We had plans to go out west and we were going to see DL for a couple of days while we were out there. We ended up having to change our plans and so we wouldn't lose our points, we chose to go the other way and go to WDW.

I told DH not to tell his father because I didn't want to hear the comments. I guess he won't be invited down for a trip to WDW any time soon.

I completely agree! And what's with people being completely OK with going to Vegas again? We went to Vegas this summer, tagging along with DH's convention travel and it was disgusting!

I think that there's a group of people who regard Disney as an amusement park, like Six Flags. And then there's people like me who think of it as 300+ restaurants, great hotels, and plenty of activities.

As for people who think that Disney is expensive, they ought to try some other places to vacation. Priced a hotel room in New York City recently? How about looked at dinner prices at a nice restaurant in Las Vegas? Airfare to Europe when the kids are out of school or the Caribbean when the hurricane threat is low?
