 Finally the haze of sickness is lifting from me today and I am able to sit upright and DIS. Had to miss work Friday because in the wee hours of the morning I was hit, no blasted is a better word, by the stomach flu. No details, but I was experiencing all the symptoms every 15 minutes or so all night. I felt like I was going to die.

Now, I haven't experienced the "symptoms" since Friday around 10:00am. I also haven't eaten anythng since dinner Thurday night. I feel a bit hungry and since the fever is just about gone I feel like I should eat something. But what? Everything in the refrigerator sort of scares me to think of eating. I don't want those symptoms back. What should I try first?

Ugh I feel for you had that same bug last month... lost a ton of weight and was sick for a good 5 days..
anyway I would start out with a clear broth .. chicken and some toast or crakers.. if you hold that down you are in good shape.. I lived on cup a soup chicken noodle (barely any noodles in there)for a good week..
sending pixie dust your way in hopes you feel much better soon! pixiedust:

Had it a couple of months ago. The first thing I was able to keep down was gatorade and saltine crackers. Hope you feel better soon.

BRAT Diet.

Bananas
Rice
Applesauce
Toast

Start slow. Six small servings a day. No dairy products. Jelly for the toast is OK. Make the rice with water and add a couple of chicken bouillon cubes. It makes it taste better. Applesauce has pectin in it which will help stop the "symptoms".

Jello is ok too as are freeze pops. I'd add the bananas last. It's bit harder on some people's stomachs but they also help stop things and provide some of the electrolytes you've lost. Plain mashed potatoes are also good.

Oh and drink, drink, drink. Water that is. :teeth:

My six year old was vomiting for a week. He lost so much weight. We took him to the doctor twice but there wasn't a lot they could do.

He did well with Gatorade. Toast is good.

Gingerale and crackers are always my first "real" foods.

:grouphug: So sorry you went through it. It's times like that your hair hurts and you're afraid you won't die.

The BRAT diet is definitely the wisest choice. If you don't have bread try pretzels or saltines. Plain pasta is also ok. Just don't over do it. Fluids are very important. I drink a lot of water normally but whenever I've had a stomach virus that's one thing I can't keep down. If it's a problem for you try anything w/o caffeine or fruit juice. Carbonated beverages or Gatorade works best for me. Hope you're better soon.

I was very sick at the beginning of summer. Lost 15 lbs in 4 days and even ended up in the ER! Not the way I planned on losing weight for my Disney trip. Hope you feel well real soon.

Thanks everyone. I ended up trying some gatorade and then later I had a 1/2 a serving of a cup a soup. I didn't have any crackers in the house.

Today I feel more like myself, but my ribs hurt. Why would they hurt? I guess it was from all that heaving. I am all out of gatorade so I am venturing out this afternoon. I'll pick up some crackers, ginger ale and ice pops too. I am feeling hungry. For some strange reason I crave watermelon. Funny, huh?

I wouldn't wish that sickness on my worst enemy.
