Well, all the wet weather in New England has subsided and we are now experiencing days in the high 80s low 90s and the ants have found there way indoors once again. Blech blech blech.

Well, at least they are not :shudder: spiders.

Disnee Dad Says.................................Hey debster812, This is simple, get a couple cans of Raid, and spray all the openings where they can get in. Which means the whole house, as they will come through any hole. Then mix up a nice batch of diazinon in a sprayer, and spray a three foot ring around your house. And mix it 50% stronger than the instructions.

I'm not sure who will die first, the ants or us, but we are undefeated so far, well, we did have a tie back in 2000!

Hey Deb!
An alernative to the pesticide route is talcum powder! Baby powder WITH talc as as ingredient. Just sprinkle where the ants are coming into your house and ...poof....no more ants! They will not cross the talc! A very nice exterminator gave me this hint when DD was a baby and I wasn't really thrilled about spraying all of the poison in and around the house. Works like a charm!

the little stinkers thought they could move right in .......they are soooo confused that they just thought we were in their home.....we sprayed three feet out and three feet up the side of the house....this worked and the little suckers are gone...

We live in an old farmhouse on a working farm. When we get ants, we REALLY get anys! When DD was little she put EVERYTHING in her mouth, so it wasn't really safe to spray. DH used to buy whatever "traps" were on sale & it seemed like we were never really able to get ahead of them until it got cold. Some years we had them all winter . . . until we hit on the Combat brand. It takes a couple days, but these work really well.

Due to the weather, we hadn't had any yet this year - until this morning & it looked like a convention!

Deb

OK--looks like we will be going for the 3-pronged attack.

We have some traps--CHECK

We were toying with the idea of spraying around the foundation, and exterior doors and windows.--CHECK

We will also now get TALC (thanks Dreamy one!) and put that inside--CHECK

Thanks for the advice everyone. When 5 of them were waving at me this morning from inside the dishwasher, that did it. *ICK*

Awwww....but when they wave those million little creepy legs at ya it just sorta plucks at your heartstrings ya know Deb?? OK..enough sentiment....its time they DIE!!!! Hee eee!!!

Dream--

I can have DS trap them in his bug box, and send them down to Auntie Dream, if they are plucking at YOUR heartstrings. :teeth:

Evil one that I am, I ran the rinse cycle on the dishwasher. If I cannot poison them, then, by gum, I'll drown em.

We've been fighting this battle for the past 2 weeks as well. But we fumigated last weekend and I haven't seen an ant since. Now we just need to spray around the foundation.

I have only found one so far, but it was on the second floor of my house!!!!!!

Deb,

I had a HORRIBLE ant infestation last fall, so bad I thought of moving out! I tried EVERYTHING, including everything mentioned on this post but nothing, NOTHING worked until my management put an Ultrasonic Pest control unit on my counter in my kitchen. I found these examples on the web, mine was cheaper:Click Here

Not one, I tell you, not ONE ant I've seen since!!! Or, BTW, anything other pest beside my four kitties and my son! :teeth:

You can find them at Home Depot or Walmart, they're about $15 to $20 apiece. Unbelievable!!

Here in PA, they are everywhere! 2 weeks ago, I heard a crackling in my wall. I went outside to see if it was something outside and I smelled smoke. So of course I freaked. I called DH ( who is a firefighter) and he came right home (made it in 5 minutes) with a couple of friends. They dismissed the fire idea because the walls weren't hot, but concluded it was vermin of the ant type when they climbed into the attic.

That was one of the worst noises that I have ever heard, the munching sound. I had no sleep for 3 nights, I dreamt of the roof falling down and I could HEAR them chewing on my house. Finally, the exterminator came (Orkin was great) and the noise stopped.

Now the plus side to all of this is that not only are the ants gone, but it's been 2 weeks and I haven't seen ANY bugs....no spiders, no millipedes, nothing.

They come back in a month for a second treatment and in the meantime, we are removing the railroad tie wall that are around the house as a future preventative measure.

But I also like that talc idea!

We get those little tiny ants in our kitchen. Especially when we turn lights on from the dark, they are all over the counter & sink, no matter how clean it is. We sprayed and sprayed, inside and out, and couldn't get rid of the little pests. DH went to a pest control store and they told him that the spray doesn't kill these types of ants, the odor only attracts them. They have to actually ingest something to eliminate them. He brought home liquid bait in little containers to hide in cabinets, behind fridge, etc. and then granules to spread outside. I haven't seen any ants in days.

Hey Deb!! Ants are the boldest.. brashest.. most persistent little.. ba......buggers....;) I agree with Disnee Dad on this one..

I wish that we did not have to use insecticide.. but dang..... I HATE bugs.. yuck!

Death to the ANTS!

Joan

Oh you are EVER so kind....but I wouldn't want you to go to that trouble for little ole me!!!:p

I can take a few ants without getting crawly - but this AM I came down to find that DH hadn't put away his pie plate when he came to bed (WAY after I was asleep.) The plate was almost black with them & when I dropped it into the sink, the counter under it was almost as bad. YUCK!

However, the bugs that make me yell for someone else to get rid of (yuck, yuck yuck) are the thousand leggers! (yuck, yuck, yuck) I absolutely detest those things!

Deb, the wimp
