The take home message for those looking to buy is that the 3 day window starts with the tour no matter what they tell you when you call.

Just to clarify - our guide told us this past May - "the 3 day window starts from the day you leave Disney"

How do they define "leave" (there is a can of worms!), I can only give you our example:
We toured on a Wednesday, left our rented villa at OKW for CT on that Saturday.. we had 3 days from Saturday to decide.

(of course, we hated that pressure, and went to TTS, took our time and bought at OKW... Just closed this morning !!! :thumbsup2

::yes:: this is what we were told as well ..... AFTER the fact. The truth for our trip is, we weren't even at Disney! We drove down from Port Canaveral just for the tour, and only after being told the "rule" would not apply :confused3 Oh, well! It worked out eventually! But you are right, that is the "official" rule :thumbsup2

WELCOME HOME GUYS!!(tink2020 and Darkside). So happy to have new DVC'ers. I hope your journey will continue to be good from here on out!

Yes and Disney applies it on a very consistent basis.

Not sure if I understand about 3 day time frame. We were at Disney the last week of May of '05 to talk to our 2nd guide and just signed the paperwork 1 week ago. I received every incentive except that my year was moved from December to February?

Yeah, I would have to argue that Disney DOESN'T apply it consistently at all, from what I've read on these boards!

Supposedly, 3 days after your vacation ends is a "deadline" imposed to make your decision, or you forfeit any and all incentives discussed during your tour.

Also supposed around here, at least in the past, was that if your first contact was interest over the phone, and you received the documents, incentives, etc before even visiting, that "rule" would be lifted. This was "confirmed" to me when I called before our cruise.

However...... I heard yesterday that the rule always applies, and I was "very fortunate" to get an exception granted, which is "rare".

Except I still read that most people get it lifted if they ask. So who knows! :rotfl: That's why I think from now on, I will take anything "official" as not really official, unless it's something in writing that I sign! Otherwise I think that every single person experiences something a little bit different!

Either way, I'm glad it worked out for both of us. Welcome home, neighbor! ;)

Geez Jen -- I really hope the rest of your DVC days aren't as tough as the first couple have been!! We love DVC and I know you will too.

:cheer2: Welcome Home! :cheer2:

Bingo. We had a slightly longer window when we bought by phone (never took the tour). But the financing and Magical Beginning offer had a firm expiration as soon as we made contact and expressed our interest to buy.

I believe everyone else has reported from the tour, not return home but you never know.

From reports on this board, generally it's only been the tour and not a formal phone contact. I don't recall another post where one lost out of options based on a phone contact without a tour.

Well,
I took "the tour" in November 2005 with my first guide. I went back to Saratoga Springs in May of 2006 and talked to my second guide to find out what the current incentives were. 2 months later I signed the contract. The incentives were too hard to pass up the second time around.

It might vary depending on your guide..(??) Perhaps some stick to the rule stronger than others.. we would have had a lot of difficulty making the decision while we were still at Disney. (we wanted to consider where to pull the $$ from, which resort did we want to buy.. resale or Disney.. and so on).

Our guide was very clear to us that it was 3 days from leaving disney, and actually said Tuesday. (our tour was wednesday and we left orlando Saturday) Well, whatever the standard is.. that's what we were told/offered. Heck, I sometimes wonder if there is a standard after reading through the boards on some things..!!?? :confused3 Though Tink2020 seems to have heard the same, and others not..?? Shall we flip a coin ?? cross our fingers ?? :teeth:

We were in phone contact with him after we left FL... and asked for a few more days - and they DID grant that. I believe he gave us until that friday. We just casually asked, told him we were crazy from coming home, unpacking, getting back to the real world - he was very nice and accommodating...

I had thought about phone contact with a guide before our trip.. but I had read and learned so much from these boards, I really didn't feel the need to call. I was disappointed when he gave us those 3 days... I knew to expect it, I just felt very rushed by it. I don't make decisions quickly and it just felt creepy. :sad2:

bottom line, doesn't hurt to ask !! good luck Jen
