Hi, I just need to vent here about my school dance tomorrow. So last year, we got to have a Halloween costume dance. It was really fun, and we got to dress up, there were cute decorations, and cool hip hop music. It was my very first school dance, and I thought it was the coolest! So this year, guess what happens? Halloween is BANNED at our school!! Absolutely no halloween costumes dances, no costumes on Halloween ( Halloween is on a school day isn't it? ) all because some people complained and said that they don't celebrate halloween. So I just think that it's unfair that just because some people don't like Halloween, means that knowbody else can enjoy it at our school. And I was really hoping the new 6th graders could experience ( sp? )
the thrill that I did last year. And it's not like the people who don't celebrate HAVE to go, our school has the computer lab open, or the library. I'm sorry if this offends people, i'm not trying to offend anyone, I just really needed to vent.
Also, I am a christian. And I celebrate it. Only for the costumes and candy though.

That does stink!! I can't believe some schools are banning Halloween! It's so ridiculous! Can you still trick-or-treat in town atleast?

that's kinda dumb

at my middle school we had a halloween dance and people could wear whatever they wanted and if people didn't celebrate halloween they just wore regular clothes.

It wasn't a big deal at my school

Yes, luckily. I think it is banned in our entire school district though. Idk, I'll have to ask my cousin about her's...

Banning Halloween is so stupid. So what if kids are dressing up and getting candy. That is what it is all about. NOT DEVIL WORSHIP.

Halloween has really turned into just costumes and candy, so I dunno why you put that sentence in there. :confused3

Exactly. So if halloween has turned into " just candy and costumes " then why do people need to complain? I mean, shouldn't the school just ban creepy costumes? ( though I think they already have ) and I guess the reason I put that sentence there is because I just wanted to prove that people should just take halloween as a day to go out dressed up and eat candy, not as an evil day.Am I making sense? Cause I feel like I'm not. lol

My schools about spirit. But they're okay if you don't.
So basically, for us, our Halloween dance you don't have to dress up, but if you don't you pay an extra dollar for it.

im pretty sure its more for safety than anything... cause some random person can come in the school, cause trouble, put students in danger, and leave without a trace if they wore a costume.. there would be no way to identify them

That is extemely stupid.. people like that should either homeschool their kids or just be more accepting!!! Don't ruin it for everybody! My school last year had a Halloween dance too, and we got to dress up. It was so much fun, I would be really angry if they canceled it just because of one person's beliefs (I respect others beliefs, but when you ruin something for others that's a bit rude.)!

And Shelby, you're right. It really is just about dressing up and getting candy.

I guess that's true, but I don't think that was the reason that people were complaining, but it is still a good reason. Though, our school doesn't really alert our whole town, just the school. Hmm, well, there is nothing I can really do now. Hopefully our dance will be good anyway.:)

Well if it helps this town doesn't celebrate halloween at all.

Our town has a town centre and two schools then lots of smaller areas branch off from them. No offence to the other kids but i live in the only nice one and we have the police making sure we don't call at houses with these don't call here or get arrested signs(mmhhmm) and moving us on from the park(coz everybody went there and we were quite noisy and lots of us were drunk) I'm going to guess in the rest of the areas there's a lot of egging and TP'ing, lots of violence lots of drugs drinking and smoking too.
So no halloween here, just an excuse for kids to go out and get drunk.

We don't have that either.
Never have,never will.
Wanna know why?
A couple of years ago,the families in our school that are Jehovah Witnessess decided to complain when they found out the school was going to celebrate halloween and christmas parties, and they thought if their children can't participate, than no one's can.

Don't know if this matters, but these are also the Jehovah Witnessess who attend school activities(ie concerts, shows, games) and NEVER even RISE for the pledge of alleigance.
Everyone else is standing up,reciting the words with their hand on their heart, and there that family is plopped down in their seats like the laziest people in the world and just ignore it.
Angers me soooo much.
:furious:

That.
Is SAD.

It's not even a HOLIDAY! You cant not celebrate a non-holiday D:

Plus.. Halloween is my ABSOLUTE favourite time of the year.
Our school has dances and costumes. And a costume contst that I won last year and hope to win again next week. xD

But this year, a dress code has been enforced because last year...lets just say some of the girls costumes.. didnt have much fabric. -_-

And theres ALWAYS police at our school for dances.. our school doesnt have the best rep. Last year a girl collapsed she was so drunk..

ANYWAYS...... :D

Yeah, thats sad. :(

I'm sorry Halloween at your school was banned. I have absoulutly n oidea what our school even does for halloween.

Well, thanks you guys for the advice, but the dance was pretty good. A lot of hip hop music, still kinda halloween-ee, only becuase they threw candy bags to the crowd. Still would have been cool with costumes though. And Sorry to those who also have no halloween, whether it's in your town, or at your school dance. And Im happy for those who do have halloween. All I can say is have fun! :)

No Halloween?!?
That's crazy.
Political correctness is freaking annoying.

But I'm glad it was still fun, Hannah :D

Political correctness and 'equality for all' has gone too far. Banning Halloween; rediculous.

Kind of reminds me how the student council banned religious artifacts (crosses, bibles, etc.) at my friend's school (my old school) earlier in the school year.

we cant wear the costumes on halloween, but we can wear them on october 27th. its kinda stupid.
