Help!
Our dog peed on our daughter's rug the night before last.
We cleaned it up immediately, but it's so muggy right now that the rug won't completely dry.
As a result (I think) the odor has gotten much, much worse.

Anyone know any tricks to removing the smell?

You will need an enzyme based product to really kill the smell. There are lots of these at Petsmart.

I second Nature's Miracle. Also, get a black llight bulb from the hardware store, put it in a lamp and shine it on the floor at night. It will show you exactly where the urine is so you can treat it. Even a little missed spot can really smell. And yes, pee glows!:o :p

Capture Carpet cleaner - they make a whole line of carpet cleaning products including a spray just for pet odors. The stuff is great!

For sure some sort of odor neutralizer from the pet store. Can you keep a fan going on in there to dry it out? Do you have a dehumidifier to help out with the moisture? Hopefully the muggies will break pretty soon! Good Luck!

We've always had great success using "Simple Solution." Essentially the same idea as Nature's Mircale, I just liked the smell better. :teeth:

Available at PetCo, PetSmart, Pet Supplies Plus... all pet stores, I'm sure! :)

Have you thrown down some baking soda? Or cornstarch to help speed up the drying process? That can help with absorption with a quick vacuum.

Good luck!

I have a carpet machine, a Hoover upright) and have used a solution with oxi-clean (one scoop), febreeze (capful) and laundry detergent (a very small amount to limit bubbling, less than a teaspoon) to the container of clean water.

I've also doused the area with vinegar/water and left it dry.

The black-light works. Make sure the room is very dark. You'll be amazed at what you see!

Nature's miracle is very good. We also use Simple Solution. Good luck.

Thank you for your suggestions!
We put white vinegar on it and then baking soda. Fans are blasting away.
We'll probably go to the pet store tomorrow for additional supplies.
Here's the culprit. Good thing he's normally perfect... :p

LOL! Another vote for "Nature's Miracle". I should have stock in the stuff.;)

Another recommendation for nature's miracle. It takes time but works well.

i've tried most of the ideas mentioned but i found that "spot shot" seemed to work the best....also, a drycon carpet cleaning business had something that helped a little also(i think it was nature's miracle though)
