UGH! Need a new desktop. Any suggestions

I'm 5 months out after my warranty with Dell was up and my desktop is acting up. I'm pretty good with computers but this one has me so frustrated, I'm just going to buy a new one. Over 75% of the time I try to turn it on it sounds like its powering on and the fans come on, but that's all it does. Then I have to power it down and sometimes I have to unplug it because it doesn't want to shut off. Then when I finally get it to boot up, its on for a bit and then the screen looks distorted and it either shuts itself down or freezes. If it was the hard drive I'd just replace it, but the powering on and off issues have me thinking it something else.​

So Its 4am, and I'm up browsing the net on my crappy laptop trying to find a desktop under $500 that has a decent video card and an hdmi port. I'm beginning to think that its a lost cause. ​

It has 512MB of shared video memory. Normally, I shy away from shared, but this one has 6Gigs of RAM. That's great for the price.
