Ugh, have to take an item back because they didn't remove the security tag!

Sigh....one more thing I do NOT need to do this week...but I bought a bra from Victoria's Secret for my dress at Palo this week...and the sales associate didn't take the security tag off. GRRR! It's just a hassle to have to work my way back into the mall to get it taken off...anyone else ever have this happen?

Yes, but I was actually able to take it off myself. It was one of those big round ones. I just took a pair of pliars on the 'knob' part and squeezed it really hard and it popped apart. :thumbsup2

I hate that!!!

I just had that happen to me a few weeks ago!! But it was worse............

I bought a shirt for DH at a Ralph Lauren outlet---2 hours from home. Got all the way home and realized it was on there. So I tromp over to the mall and went into a store and asked them if they could take it off for me. They looked at me like I had 4 heads. I showed them the receipt and told them I didn't plan on driving 2 hours to have the tag removed. They did it, but not without treating me like a thief first!!

You know, I was at the mall the other day and bought a pair of pants. The woman rang them up, folded them up and put them on the side to wrap in tissue as she was waiting for the credit card to go through. I said "Oh, please don't forget to remove the security tag" and she snapped at me with "I know!" I thought "Yeah, I prob. would've gone home w/tagged pants!" I mean, I was polite about it and she got all nasty. Like I want to go back to the mall for that?!?!

I have a student (Kdg.) who still has the security tag on her book bag. It always gets in the way of the zipper when I zip up her bag. I am so tired of dealing w/it that I think I'm going to ask the custodian to bring his pliers to my room to remove the tag this week. I don't know if Mom/Dad stole the book bag but at this point, I don't care.

I think that the consumer should be compensated for that kind of error. Maybe 10% of the purchase price back? I bet you'd see fewer items going home w/tags on them!

I was at Epcot in Sept and bought a Coca-cola baseball hat as an early Christmas gift. I didn't notice, until I got back home to Pennsylvania, that the security tag is still on it. I can't wait to see the clerks face after Thanksgiving when I go back to WDW and go back with the hat (and receipt) and ask her to remove it.

Of course, if I wasn't going back, we would have tried to find a local store that uses the same kind and have it removed, or tried ourselves, but since the timing works, I'm taking it back!

I would send a complaint letter to them through planet feedback. You shouldn't have to make a trip all the way back because they screwed up.

That happened to me at Kohls once. The manager gave me money to cover the gas I had to use to get back to the store. I was quite surprised and happy!

That happened on our last trip to WDW last May...they left it on a T-shirt for DD, and we didn't realize it until we got home to RI. I posted here :) and found out that I could bring it to JC Penney with the receipt and they'd remove it, and they did, no problem. Still, it was a PITA.

And here's another experience I posted about:
Two months ago, my DD got a prom dress at David's Bridal. A couple of days before the prom we brought it to the mall to a store where my niece works to have her help pick out jewelry. As we went into one store (Filene's, I think), we set off the alarm. So we took the dress out and looked, and sure enough, there was a security tag, so we stopped at David's Bridal to get it taken off. Good thing we found it days before the prom!

One thing I don't get about security tags...how come they don't always set off the alarm in the store you buy the item in? How'd we get out of World of Disney with it on? How'd we get out of David's Bridal (and then back in) with it on DD's prom dress? :confused3 So much for security.

It has happened to me before, but I was able to break it apart without damage.

Now, my question is: How come the alarm doesn't go off when we walk out of the stores with the tag on the garment, BUT it goes off when we walk back in to the store to have it removed? :confused3 :confused3

::yes::

I flew from San Francisco to Boston with one attached to a shirt I bought my husband.

Luckily my sister had a friend that worked in retail and was able to get it off for me. I hate it when that happens!

I hope you get it off quickly and easily!

We had that happen to us at WDW, too. Bought a throw at a Resort and travelled home to Maine to find it when we took it out of the bag. Hmmm. Took it to the Disney store at the Mall (2 hrs. away) and they couldn't do it, but sent us to JC Penney. They were very helpful. I chuckled reading this-guess it's happened more than I thought!

Twice... once I got a dvd, but we didn't open it for several monthes (yeah we do that alot, just because I like the movie, doesn't mean I want to watch it today :) ) Anyway, when we did try to open it we found there was a long plastic piece that kept it from opening. I ended up ripping the case apart, then putting the movie and paper in a new case. Believe me pulling a dvd case apart is no easy task.

THe other time it was on kids clothing.... can't remember what, but it was at a dollar store. I was so ticked off... had to walk back to the store since I didn't have a car. Grrrr.

Yep, a few times. Once I bought a dress to wear to a wedding the day of the wedding. I put the dress on, went to the wedding and commented to DH about how well made the dress was since it had weights on it to keep it hanging nicely. It wasn't but a few minutes later that a friend of mine started cracking up and pointing at the security tag attached to the bottom! I'll never live it down!

heh That happened to me last week at Victoria's Secret. Luckily, it did set the alarm off, so I was able to get it fixed before I left. She had a lot of nerve though....I got to the door, it went off, so I turned around and walked back. Instead of just taking it off real quick, she continued ringing up a customer who was getting a credit card, before taking it off. It would have taken about a second for her to help me, and I was the one already inconvenienced!

A couple years ago we went to Disneyland in May. Dh found a coat he wanted, but we didnt have the extra money. My sister went a couple weeks before Christmas. At that time I had the money. So, I asked her to pick up the coat for me. Two days before Christmas I picked it up from her. It was dh's big Christmas gift. Right on the front of it was the huge security tag! I was about sick. There was no way to take it back or send it back in time for Christmas. I ended up taking it to the mall and found a nice sales clerk at a store that would remove it for me.

I've had it happen 3 times this fall. Twice on stuff for DD and once on something for me. It's a real pain especially now when the malls are getting so crowded.

I hate when that happens. Recently it happened at NY and Company. I used to work retail and knew that the tag it had didn't have the ink stuff so, I pulled it as much as I could and then got some wire cutters and cut it off.

That's pretty funny! :lmao: :lmao:

This happened to me last year! It was very frustrating, because the alarm DID go off when I walked out. I turned around and waited for someone to come to check my bags. Nobody came. I got home and realized the security tag was still on. GRRRRRRRRR.

Great loss prevention system the Gap has, huh?

This happened to me several years ago with a pair of ski pants. Unfortunately, I didn't notice until I was packing the night before an early morning flight. My neighbor was able to get the tag off, but the ink leaked, and it left a small tear. Thank God the pants were black, and I know how to darn. :rotfl:

I still have a pair of pants I bought at Filene's hanging in the closet with the supid tag on it from LAST YEAR!!! :rotfl: Maybe I'll try the plier thing.
