I booked the DVC ABD for New York. I fully anticipate going, but it is pretty far away so thought insurance would be a good thing. Since this is a DVC trip, apparently I can't get ABD insurance which I had for my previous ABD..DVC reccommends Travelex..they have some pretty awful reviews. Any experience with them or any other company? (btw..was on the phone over a half hour trying to get someone at Travelex or ABD to answer and no one ever did..poor customer service... fail on both)

I don't know about either of those companies, but whenever we go on a trip we go to the insuremytripdotcom website and get a policy. You can compare coverage on the site. I called them once when I had a questions before I bought and they answered the phone right away.

If you are traveling using points I would recommend Travel Gaurd by Chartis. DVC used to recommend them before Travelex.
If paying cash or a portion in cash we use Access America by Allianz.

We have had claims with both and the claims process was easy.

DVC changed the underwriter on their policy as of 1/1/12 it is now through stonebridge I think. You can download the actual policy from the members site, some improvement's over the previous one. I had a great phone experience with them, I'd try again.

I went to the new DVC member site (UGH!!! Hope they get it fixed soon) and could not find any link. there is also no search tool within the site. Anybody have a link?

We have used Travelex 3 times and had to claim once for baggage. They paid immediately. We had no problems with them.

I have a theory -

Disney limits the number of members that can be logged onto the members' website. We get the "Down for Maintenance" banner whenever that limit has been reached.

Today is the 11 month booking date for NYE and a lot of people are probably on the site trying to make reservations. Try again in an hour or so. I'm betting it will be back in business.

It's just a theory, but it makes sense to me.

OP - FWIW, I just used www.insuremytrip.com to get insurance for a cruise (not Disney). We had several choices of companies to choose from on the site. It had good reviews and it was easy to deal with - they were quick to mail our cards and the policy. I didn't have to file any claims so can't review that piece. Worth checking out.
