I'm having a big party on Saturday for my DH's birhtday and I made 140 meatballs in my house last night. In those meatballs were 3 pounds of chopped and pan cooked onions and a small jar of pureed garlic. I opened the window and turned on the kitchen fan, and even lit candels before I started cooking but it didn't help. My house reaks! Even all our clothes and coats smell. I don't know what to do. Help! So far I have the windows cracked (we're in Connecticut but it's 65 out today so I was able to open the windows) and some small bowls of vinegar set around the house plus a couple of candles burning. Anything else I can try?:confused3 I think I sent my daughter to school smelling like an onion, thats a whole other problem, I'm sure she'll get made fun of :sad2:

I actually can say that those Febreeze candles really get the cooking odors out of the house without "scenting the air" to cover it up- it really just seems like the fresh air is back.

This same thing happened to me last weekend. I hate the smell of onions in my house! I kept the windows opened and used candles like you. You could also try baking something sweet to see if that would help. I had to bake cookies and once I did that my house smelled yummy not yucky!

Okay cookies, I'll give that a go too. I just can't stand it, it's in the bedrooms, the bathroom my closets. I had to change my shirt when I dropped off my daughter at my mom's, I borrowed a sweater, I smelled THAT bad. It was 3 lbs of onions :scared:

I feel your pain! My parents are always frying up onions they eat them with just about everything. Well when i stop by just for 5 minutes to pick up my son I come out smelling awful! and my son of course is even worse. Even his hair will smell of it. It just grosses me out. I tell them to do something about it but it just makes them mad and they don't seem to smell it!! :confused3

Good question. I always hate cooking odors too! I keep the B & BW wallflowers plugged in to try to help. I'll try everyone else suggestions, too. Good luck.

If you don't want to bake -
Just sprinkle some Cinnamon on a baking sheet with a drip or two of Vanilla- put it in a low oven(like 200-250) so it just heats- leave the door slightly open.

That is a quick one with stuff you probably have at home.

Maybe you could try spraying Febreeze as well. In the closets, on the bed linens and upholstered furniture just to make sure the smell doesn't linger there. I  Febreeze!

Ohh good idea about the cinnamon and vanilla, I can leave that one for hours, that should help. I think I'll boil oranges and cloves on the stove too. Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

Anyone know of a printable fabreze coupon? I want to buy the candles, I have the spray at home.

I reallly like the glade candles. The fresh linen scent has taken odors out of the air for me. They are really inexpensive. I think Target my have them on sale. I usually buy them at Target, Kmart or Lowes for the best price.

Kmart did have coupons by the candles a couple weeks ago.

I've tried a few scents and have liked them all. I like the linen for bed and bathrooms the best, its softer yet still removes odors without smelling like food.

Boil cinnamon in a small boiler iat a low heat. For a few hours smells good. Like the holidays

unscented oust. It has worked for everything I can think up for it. I'm sure scented would work nice too but I've never tried it

I work for a company that makes candles and they say to burn a vanilla scented or honeydew scented candle to remove an unwanted aroma. They are not only suppose to cover the odor, but somehow absorb it was well. I don't know if this works will all candles or just ours. Good Luck

I was going to suggest this too. Get out a pan and simmer water and cinnamon (sticks, if you have them, work better) and just simmer for a while. If you add a few drops of vanilla it will smell like french toast. We're in a condo and our neighbors  onions so our house smells like them ALL THE TIME. Last year we got a simmer pot as a GIFT! People know from when they've stopped by. It really does help. When I hear their fan going on I go start the burner.

How annoying, they aren't even your onions! Thanks for the tip.

:rotfl: Fried onions and garlic is the BESY smell in the entire Universe. Just like Grandma's kitchen.

I HATE cinnamon. :lmao:

I use the oust candles too while i'm cooking and also you can put out small bowls of white vinegar in different rooms-it absorbs odors and only stinks while you are near the dish but leave them out overnight and they really help.I have a very strong sense of small and get nauseated by the cooking smells the next day of garlic and onion.you can put some vinegar and water in a pot on the stove and boil it while cooking and it will absorb the odor too-just watch the pot because it boils away pretty quick.
