Uggghhh... split stay FP problems!

So annoyed. Stayed up late to do these, and I can only make them for second 1/2 of our trip. We have a split stay (5 nights/5 nights) and because I had to change my dates, the tickets (for 4 out of the 5 of us going) are attached to the second reservation. TA didn't switch the tix because the price had gone up so it would have cost us more $. She thought we could still do FP 60 days out from the first reservation for everyone.

I'm guessing it allowed me to book the FP for the second reservation because one of our party has his tickets attached to the first reservation, which is 60 days from today.

So I'm guessing I'll have to wait until 30 days out to make them for the first 1/2?

It sounds like when you say that the tickets are attached to the second half of your reservation that you have a package for that half. If that's the case, then you can't make FP reservations for the first half at all, because you don't have tickets for that part of your stay.

Seriously??? I'll be so mad if that's the case! I've emailed my TA but of course I won't hear back until tomorrow.

How can I tell if it's a package or not?

Did you book it as a package? Room + tix or room + tix + dining? Your TA should know for certain if it was booked as a package or not.

Thanks for the responses. I really don't know how to tell, but it sounds like it was a package since I can't book FP's until the start date of the second reservation.

I'm not going to let this ruin my vacation, but I am annoyed that a WDW travel agent wouldn't know this. I bet that when they move the tickets to my first reservation, I'll lose all the FP's I've made so far. Bye, bye A & E!

Did you put down a $200 deposit? Or did you pay for one night of the room reservation and buy the tickets in full? That will tell you whether it's a package.

$200 x 2 ($200 for each of the reservations). And originally all 5 of had our tickets attached to the first reservation. So why would I have to pay $200 for the second reservation when it was room only??

Thank you for the feedback!

So do you have 10-day tickets on the second reservation? My concern isn't the FP+ reservations for the first half of the trip, it's whether you'd be able to pick up the package tickets 5 days early. I know the rule used to be 3 days early. Maybe @Robo could clarify if he's head anything lately about that.

It's bizarre that your deposit for the first reservation would be $200 if it isn't a package, but with no tickets attached, it couldn't be.

I could be wrong, but I thought you could only get your tickets 3 days prior to a package stay. With a 5 day first part of the stay, and tickets connected to the second half, I am pretty sure, you cannot even get your tickets the day you arrive. Can anyone confirm this? If not, look at Cheshire cats pinned thread all about tickets.

Sorry posted at same time as the previous poster. But I can't find that thread anymore anyway. I would check into it though, being it is more than myself who thinks that is the case.

That's because it's no longer a sticky since Cheshire Figment hasn't updated it in a couple of years. But I'm not aware of the ability to activate tickets up to 3 days prior to the beginning of a package changing.

4 of us have 8-day convention tix attached to the second stay. 1 of us has 3-day tix attached to the first stay.

When I first booked, we all had tix attached to what is now the second stay (used to be the first stay, but with the days of my trip changing it's now the second stay), yet I still had to pay $200 deposit for each of the reservations.

I'm sure (hoping???) that the TA can just switch the tix over to the first reservation.

You clearly need to talk to your TA to get a true picture of what is going on because this seems like a mess. It's not as simple as "moving" the tickets from one reservation to another. You'd have to cancel the package for the second reservation and re-book as a room-only. Your first reservation should be a room-only reservation, but the $200 deposit on that baffles me.

And as an FYI, if you do anything to the tickets attached to your second-stay package, you will lose the FP+ reservations you've made.

Did you intentionally make the first half a room-only reservation while the second half was a package reservation with tickets?

Does the second half have dining?

If you try to take the tickets off of a package then the package disintegrates and dining will be lost.

The worse problem is that you cannot get the ticket admissions until you are within 3 days of the package with the tickets i.e. witihin 3 days of the second half.

According to my calculations, that would mean that your arrival half day and the day after will have to be spent at Universal or Sea World or Downtown Disney.

There exist packages with no tickets (and also no dining). I think they have no socially redeeming value unless they cost less than the then available room-only reservations or unless they have something you really want such as a free golf tee time. As packages they have much less lenient deposit and cancellation rules.

If one of you has valid tickets linked to the first portion of your stay, that person may be able to log into his or her MDE account and make the FP+ for the entire party at the opening of the earlier window. This should work as long as you are all connected properly in MDE. I have never tried this technique with packages, but it has worked fine with staggered arrival dates as well as onsite/offsite split parties. The above post however is correct about when you will be able to pick up / use your package tickets. It is always three days prior to checkin.

Thank you so much to everyone who responded! I was slightly freaking out, but it worked out just fine. Spoke to my travel agent this morning after she talked to WDW. Got the tickets switched (for the same price) to the first reservation, and didn't lose any of my FP's for the dates I was able to book after midnight! Just went in and booked my FP's for the first part of my trip, so all is well.

Much appreciated!
