Our first trip to DL is fast approaching and I'm confused about the laws surrounding Uber/Lyft and booster seats. My research shows that a booster is required for kids under 8 years old. However many posts here state kids 8 and under. Which is correct? Can my 8 year old travel in an Uber without having to tote around a mifold all day in the parks?

From: https://www.chp.ca.gov/programs-services/programs/child-safety-seats

  • Children under the age of 8 must be secured in a car seat or booster seat in the back seat.
  • Children who are 8 years of age OR have reached 4’9” in height must be secured by a safety belt.

Thanks to both of you for confirming. This is good news. My company has an excellent corporate rate at the Marriott Suites that I can't pass up but it's farther than I'd like. Knowing we can utilize Uber makes me feel better about it.

We kept our son in a booster until all seat belts we encountered actually fit him. And he's tall, and until recently was all torso, but still he didn't fit all seat belts (to the extent where they wouldn't actually kill him in a crash) for a solid amount of time after 8.

And so we got the Bubble Bum booster. Weighs a pound, deflates and goes in a bag, and is super easy to carry, inflate, and clip in. Highly recommend it.

SoCal is one of the LAST places I want to have an iffy seatbelt situation in! I want a 5 point harness *for me* around there!

I have to second the Bubble Bum. We used it for my then newly 10yo in NYC when using Uber. Super easy (and quick) to inflate and use and then it deflates and stores easily in a backpack. Not heavy or bulky at all.

If my son didn't fit in most seat belt systems (and he didn't until he was 11yo), I would bring the Bubble Bum.
