Hello all, newbie to the board.
Rather last minute deal happening. Family trip end of September - the folks have a timeshare so onsite wasn't even an option. Extended family is going:
~The folks (in their 70's, and gma has bad arthritis in knees though she is stoic and uncomplaining
~the enthusiast for all things fun, empty nesting middle aged daughter (me!)
~the youngest son, his wife, and the princess of all princesses, their 2.5 year old daughter
~and a cousin/aunt/second cousin/whatever extended pod consisting of another middle aged fun loving empty nester, her eldest son, and his little boy, also 2.5
I am leaving a couple days early so it will be 9 people friday through monday, then tuesday and wednesday just 8. So a pretty big crowd the entire time. (thursday checkin, thursday checkout)
There are no hard core regular or frequent or even recent Disney visitors among us, my last real visit was 10 years ago so most of what I know is out of date, and I don't think anyone else has been in recent years either, and I bet none of them have even thought about all this, but being a compulsive detail person and kind of worrier, well, i have.
All advice suggestions tips and information welcome, thanks so much in advance.
The timeshare is at Marriott Grande Vista and I understand it's very nice and we have more than enough room even with 9. As wonderful as the onsite perks sound, they ain't happenin so I want to make the best of offsite!
Our issues are going to be that we have as I said, one gparent with mobility issues (she has a handicapped card she can take with her) plus two littles, so car seats to and from Disney, and also taking strollers, are a thing. I know we will be renting at least one car but I don't know if any rental cars exist that carry 9, plus strollers, so we will either have to rent two cars, OR what I was thinking was that we'd get one car and then Uber the overflow-
I was thinking that because I have serious doubts if the whole clan is going to be up to rope drop till fireworks, but some (like me and probably the extended pod) might be, so if one group is going to take a mid day break anyway, there's no reason to try to squeeze everyone into one huge van.
I said my last real visit was ten years ago but actually last spring I was in Orlando and spent one day at Hollywood. (I will spare the details of all that.) The main thing is we used Uber and it was GREAT. No parking. No walking. No tramming. Just dropped off at the gate and picked up at the gate.
If you experienced folks were to have a big party like ours, with varied ages and energy levels, assuming some folks might park hop or take a mid day break and others might not, and were choosing who to take the car and who to Uber, what would you think the advantages and disadvantages of each would be?
Or would you just get two cars? Honestly by the time you pay for an extra car and parking I think Uber would be cheaper. Our resort is about 8 miles from MK. I looked it up and Uber is about 12 to 15 dollars one way.
