SO we Fly out in 20 days (WHOOOOOHOOOOO) Anyways I have a 15 dollar credit for Lyft I got from jet blue so we will be using Lyft for the very first time.. SO here is the questions..

It says I can book it in advance so When should I book it? I believe we land at Long Beach 8:07pm and will have checked in luggage. Should I schedule my ride before we fly out or wait until we land? So Maybe like schedule maybe 8:40. How does this work if the something gets held up?

I just want this trip to go smoothly.. I normally have my 3 kids in tow and I drive the 7 hours *LOL* This is a Adult only trip and my first time away from my kiddos LOL Stress free is the way im trying to make it go *LOL*

I wouldn't book anything until you land. Too many things can cause a delayed departure, then you'll be scrambling to determine when you'll land. I'd wait until you land. While you're taxiing from the runway to the terminal, go ahead and schedule your Lyft before you even get off the plane. I would give yourself 30-45 minutes. LB isn't a huge airport so it shouldn't take too long for bags to get unloaded.

I would request a car as soon as you have your bags in your hand. Flights are late, baggage gets delayed, etc. There are likely many Lyft cars in the vicinity of the airport and you wouldn't have to wait more than a few minutes before your car appears.

Don't pre-book. That's really only a thing you do if you need a car at like 3am. At 8:00 there will be a ton of Lyfts available. Just request one when you get outside with your bags. You might have to wait like 5 minutes.

So book one for our return flight since we need to be at the airport like at 6:30am.. Well that just makes things easier then lol

I’ve never had to wait longer than 5 mins for my Lyft driver at LGB. I usually just click the pick up button as soon as I grab my bag from baggage claim.

I agree with others about not needing to prebook. There are plenty of Lyft drivers nearby. I wouldn’t bother prebooking on way to airport either, but that’s up to you

FYI, the "pre book" or "schedule a ride" feature on Uber and Lyft does not guarantee a car will be waiting for you at that time...it only automatically pings the next driver at that time. If there are no drivers available right away, you could be outta luck with a false sense of security vs looking at the app to make sure there are drivers in the area a bit before you need the ride.

Now with that, I have never had a problem getting an Uber or Lyft in that area even as early as 4:30am, so just request a ride when you have your bags and when you are ready to leave your room form the hotel.

Would there be any problem getting an Uber from DLR to Hollywood on a weekday morning around 6:30/7:00? Are Uber drivers willing to drive that far?

I've never taken a Uber that far/long, but oh boy. That's gonna be a 2+ hour ride at that time and very expensive since they started charging both time and distance.

When I entered the fare estimate, it said $43-$57? Do you think it will be more than that? I've only taken an Uber once before. While we're in Disney, I won't have a car and just to rent one for the day when you included parking was close around $100 and then I would be stuck driving.

I don't know because I've never taken an Uber that long, but they do factor in time. What time did you do the estimate? You need to do it at the time you plan on leaving for it to be more accurate.

Drivers are notified if the ride is expected to take longer than 45 and they have the option to accept or decline from the onset. If they accept, that would be no problem.

As a courtesy, for 30+ min trips will message the driver right away with my destination to make sure they are willing to travel a bit, but I have never had a driver still wanna cancel. DLH to Hollywood would be no problem unless you are trying to go in rush hour.

We took an Uber/Lyft (I can't remember which since I use whichever one I have a coupon for!) from San Diego to Disneyland in November. The driver had NO idea we had requested a ride that far! He said the don't tell you how long or short the trip will be so that the drivers can't cherry pick only the best rides. He took us no problem, but I thought it was kind of weird that they didn't let him know.

Is a fairly new feature they recently added for Uber drivers

Thanks! I will definitely do this.

Are you continuing your trip in the LA area? If so, I highly recommend taking the train, either Metrolink or the Surfliner. It is WAY cheaper than an Uber or Lyft and will probably take less time because traffic is horrible going through Orange County and LA at that time in the morning. I usually take a Lyft from my hotel to the train station (around $7) and then a Lyft or the light rail or subway to my destination in LA. FYI: I took a Lyft from Universal Studios to Union Station in December. It was only a 10 mile trip, but ended up costing me close to $40 because of how long it took with traffic. I’d bet your trip to LA at that’s time will cost over $100. Maybe even $150.
