UberX, UberXL, and Lyft are now available at OIA. Both services have messaged drivers or updated their driver web site with instructions for pickups.

Pickups will be on the Arrivals level on both A & B sides. Lyft has instructed drivers to pick up only at specific doors at the ends of the building; the Lyft app will probably ask you to choose one. Uber hasn't said drivers are limited to specific doors.

UberSelect is still available as well. They will continue to pick up in the Express Tunnel of the garage.

Great news! I wonder how this will impact prices with the car services. If I can get Uber for half the price of a car service, I might be very tempted to use Uber.

Yay, looking forward to using this next week when I get to MCO.

Yeah, Uber sent out an email announcement to customers this morning. So happy to hear that news that made it official. It will probably mean no more ME for us

What is the approximate price regular Uber/Lyft from MCO? Very interested to hear this because it is option for my next trip definitely!

$25 with tip for base level on all our trips when went from Disney to airport. Add $10 for the next car size up (like if you have bags)

That isn't bad at all. We won't have any check in luggage so it is just my wife and I with two backpacks and two carry on bags. I think I will do this!

According to RideGuru, from MCO to the Contemporary
  • Uber X or regular Lyft is about $24 -- and that does NOT include tip.
  • XL or Lyft Plus is about $42, again without tip.
  • Taxi is about $68-$70 without tip.

There's roughly a $6 surcharge on pickups at the airport. Sounds like it might be included in RideGuru's estimate.

The airport is requiring Lyft drivers to wait for dispatch in a parking lot up in the northwest corner of the property way off the main entrance road, so expect it to take 5-10 minutes for the car to arrive. The Uber queuing area appears to be a little bit closer, but still expect a 5 minute ETA.

I said in my original post that Lyft was limiting pickup to 4 specific doorways. A newer message from Lyft doesn't mention that, so the restriction may have been removed. In any case, the doors on the arrivals curb are numbered, and it would be helpful to text the door number you're at to your driver.

Wow! Ours is $2. For drivers, that will be a pass-through. It will show on your fare as a deduction, but it will have been added to the rider's fare so it doesn't hurt the driver.

I doubt it. I used the Contemporary because it's about as far as you can get from MCO. For an offsite hotel, the fare could easily be $4-5 less.

At MIA, both companies give us the door number as the pickup address. If you're not getting it yet, it may come in a few days/weeks.

For riders, yes, the door number is hugely helpful. If you have any doubt, call the driver (or text with Uber) and let the driver know exactly where you are. The "From my location" pickup locations are notoriously inaccurate. "Door 27" tells us exactly where you are...but don't move!

When I used select in the past they still asked for the door number we went out so that seems to be fairly standard question I guess

Even with the $6 it seems like a bargain to me

Yes, Uber is complaining that it's the highest in the country, and $3 more than taxi riders pay. Airport's answer: "You're not taxis; quit complaining."

Still far cheaper overall than a taxi ride.

Might be already. I haven't done a pickup yet, just relaying what the companies have told us and looking at the staging areas on the map.

Uber certainly should know better than to accept that answer. There is a specific provision in the new law that says airports and seaports can charge TNC's "reasonable" dropoff/pickup fees, but NO MORE than they charge taxis.

Travis is gone. It's the kinder, gentler Uber. ;)

Yep, but Uber still needs to fight that. It doesn't hurt Uber or the drivers; it hurts the customer, although as AngiTN said it's probably a worthwhile cost to save $40.

On the doors -- if there is any doubt, the riders would do well to type the door number into the app instead of using "From my current location." Like: "Orlando airport - Door 20."

I had a group trying to squeeze 7 adults and about 8,000 pounds of luggage into my Enclave yesterday, and I did that for them when we ordered the second car.

There is nothing worse than having to circle around through all that traffic because you couldn't find the passengers. Many drivers will cancel - no show in that situation, which creates a hassle and a $5 charge to the rider.

Question.....is there any way to request a specific driver? I know that my dd has wanted to use Uber for longer rides (other than from housing to her CM job) but has been hesitant because of being alone in a car with a 'stranger'. Just curious if she knew where she was going to be and knew a particular driver, could he/she be used? Not sure if that's clear or not.

No, never on either Uber or Lyft. Even if you tried to use that UZURV app, it wouldn't work because of the FIFO queue.

There is a way to do it with Uzurv, but it's questionable legally even if the driver does the ride on the app. If they do it off the app, it is clearly illegal and she would be riding without any insurance to boot.

She can select a driver using Uzurv going anywhere except from a location where there is no queue. However, the airport is not the only venue with a queue; a LOT of places at WDW have queues.

Since she is a CM and using Uber occasionally, a better strategy would be to identify a driver she has actually met, ridden with, and with whom she feels comfortable. If she finds a driver she likes, it is possible to make arrangements to pick her up at a certain time and place. BUT...she should be sure she always requests the ride through the app for the insurance coverage.

Thanks guys! I was just curious. She's not a Disney CM anymore, but is at US. Hopes to be back at WDW this fall. Doesn't look like she's heading home as she had planned, so no need for airport transport. Besides, she's an adult now...she needs to figure this stuff out for herself. Mom is pretty much done!!!!

My buddy Bill who drives for U and L
in Los Angeles says "nope".
