Hi, our last trip we rented a car and we brought our own car seat. Our son will be 2 the next time we go and I may decide to not rent a car and just use uber family instead for the hand full of times we would need a car. How has your experience been with uber family. I really would just need to know the availability of a car seat when we used uber family would this be easier than renting a car?????

What is Uber Family? The only Uber Family I'm aware of is a Family Profile that lets up to 10 family members use the same account to request and pay for rides.

If you do it correctly you'll have no problem getting a car seat. Just make sure you swipe all the way right to the "more" area and it will give you two options. You can do uberX+Car Seat or uberXL+car seat. That will depend on how may people you have. X is up to 4 and XL is up to 6 passengers. There is a $10 surcharge for using a car seat but if I was to get an UberX from MK to AKL right now it says it is 18.96 for that ride and it is one of the longer rides on property.

From the airport they only are allowed to use Sedan and SUV so a car seat from there will cost you between 70 and 90 bucks.

Uber family is what they use to call the car seat option. I don't think it is called that in the app any more or at least my app doesn't call it that any more. Instead it is now "car type+car seat" in the app.

Interesting. My husband drives for Uber here in Michigan and we never had the Family option. Yes to the car seat option, but wasn't called Family. Thanks for the info!

The OP could also be referring to family profiles which is where 10 people in a home/family can share the same profile across different phones but they said a car seat specifically so I thought it was that since that was what car seat was called when it launched in 2014 but has changed to just car seat.

Hi I am unfamiliar with Uber I have never use it. My main concern is the ease of getting a car seat. Sorry i am not aware of the official name. I read an article there was an uber family option. Will just be myself, my hubby and baby so 3 passengers

I'm pretty sure they only provide a forward facing seat. So, if you have a baby, you probably won't be able to use it since the baby needs to be rear facing.

My understanding from what I've read is that the Uber Family program in Orlando is very different than the original Uber Family program that was rolled out in NY, DC and Philadelphia, which all used the same car seat and provided training in installation and use for all the drivers. The Orlando program lets the driver pick the seat, so you may get a different seat in each vehicle you book. Needing to verify the installation and appropriate harness height may eat up some of your time savings from using Uber. This site identifies some of the potential shortcomings of the program: http://thecarseatlady.com/uberfamily-in-orlando/

You are gaurenteed a car seat and there are plenty Uber drivers in the Orlando area that use it. Just make sure you book with the car seat option selected and you will get a car seat. With that said Uber's policy is the child must be between 2 and 6 and must weight between 25 and 60 pounds. If he is small for 2 then Uber may not use a car seat that is proper for his size.

I tried to uber with a car seat this morning and it was going to cost me $10 more and the wait was about three times longer. I opted instead to use my mifold which I also have with me. It was five minutes instead of 19 minute wait for the car seat uber. I think your two year old would be too little for a mifold, but it's convenient for us when we might be using uber on our trips.

I used Uber a lot while in Orlando in November. My mom was hospitalized during our trip, and I used Uber mainly to get back and forth to the hospital. For the most part, my kids stayed at WDW with my DH. One day, I was going to take my kids to the hospital with me to see her. I had a really difficult time finding an Uber with 2 car seats whereas typically I would request an Uber and have someone there within 2-3 minutes. In fact, I never found an uber with two carseats so I opted to take one kid rather than both. It still took about 20 min to get an Uber granted this was a Saturday evening the weekend of Thanksgiving so that could have impacted the availability.

We only used it on 4 different occasions during our trip last Aug./Sept., but we never had an issue getting an Uber Family and never really had to wait to reserve. Probably took about 5-10 mins for it to arrive once we reserved it.

Yes, the site says 4 and over, at least 40 inches tall, and over 40 lbs. I don't think that will be an option for OP.

I had a terrible experience with Uber Family.
We had to take my son to urgent care. They picked up from the resort but there we NO ubers with a car seat to get them back to the hotel. I had to actually get a uber family from the hotel and drive to pick them up and back, it was more expensive. We couldn't get a taxi either, there was a 2 hour wait. The husband and son had to sit in urgent care's parking lot after it closed with 7% battery while I panicked to figure this out.
